I recently moved from WRE to the moss haven area.

WRE is a strange area where you have older couples moving out for all the rebuilds and what I would call the extra wealthy moving into the rebuilds. I only know a couple of the newer families and both of them are in private. The couple families I know still in the neighborhood that moved in when we did back in 2010 fully expected to go to WRE but are now in private.

In the MHE area its more of a uniform income level and I think most people are on the edge of ponying up for private, but I know several that have. Two families I know did it with just some of their kids not all as some were struggling with the mask stuff so much.

I was hoping to get my kids through elementary in RISD, but I just can't trust the schools and district anymore and the lack of transparency and choice given to the parents was enough to send us over the edge. Now I'm looking at the bill for 3 kids in private school, and it probably just makes more sense to sell the house.

Hell I could move into DISD where the crappy school district is already priced in to the house.

I doubt it. Preston Hollow, Devonshire, Bluffview, Midway Hollow, M-Streets, Lakewood are all more expensive than Moss Haven.

That's crazy, because I know a few WRE residents I went to HS with (38-40 age range) where all they do is smear their parent clicks at WRE all over Facebook and how it's the best school/area. They think it's cool and fun, but it looks hilariously staged/fake, like Christina Applegate in Bad Moms fake.

Lakewood resident and kid goes to Lakewood. This school is still relatively strong but I've never seen a school with such parent involvement.

Now, junior high and high school, yeah we are looking at private. It's sad bc things were creeping up for a while there in the right direction with M streets, and the Junius heights starting to turn over, etc. I met a lot of good and successful kids coming out of Woodrow who went to Lakewood or mockingbird, etc.

But yeah COVID made a 180 on this.
Tanglewood is the FW equivalent of this it sounds like. Insane levels of parental involvement.

I think they were ranked the #1 elementary school in the state at one point, and then they route into Pascal HS which isn't that good of a school. Everyone in this area goes private from word of mouth. My neighbor in Crowley moved down from Connecticut to run one of the private schools in the area.

I'm glad my kids are adults. All three of my kids graduated from Pearce as did I back in 1975. We all had a great experience with RISD. The district is not what it used to be though. I still love the area. Homes are nice and not cookie cutters like you see in newer developed neighborhoods. There are still some nice pockets within the district but you gotta be really careful where you select.

The district has issues, but I don't think the sky is falling. There are numerous quality schools, administrators, and teachers. The fact that you're all so worked up is a good sign in itself.

Confirmation Bias might be one of lamest corporate/woke terms I've ever heard.

Did you just say "boy" instead of "girl" when women are just as capable of identifying confirmation bias as anyone!?! Are you purposely trying to use words that assert your male privilege?

RISD is now posting their SEL programs online after the former super (looks like she lied?) and said that was impossible.

3rd grade scores are low?

3rd graders scored 17% lower than 2019?

Hmmmm…I wonder why?

Current 3rd graders were about halfway through their 1st grade year when they didn't have access to their campuses from March-September. Their 2nd grade year was an insane attempt to appease everyone by offering hyflex teaching. Their 3rd grade year has been a mix of omicron fears and having teachers/subs/admin/bus drivers that are being given impossible goals and tasks (which is driving many of them out of education). So these kids, who haven't had any sense of normalcy in learning over the past two years, are being taught by replacements in an environment that many still don't trust as safe. And the emphasis is on…test scores.

Yeah, I can justify why the 3rd grade scores are 17% lower than 2019.

This graph seems to reflect the theme we've all heard regarding many parents discovering the reality of what's being taught at school because they got to see it firsthand during COVID.

And those parent's left because of it. All I can say is public school is not your friend and won't do your kids any favors. If you can afford it, it behooves you to get them in private school if you live in an urban area.

Parents pulled their kids out of public schools at the same time the pandemic hit. Every year before that shows growth.

The extra FTEs are from the ESSR funds provided by the federal government for three years. Those funds were to hire more Full Time Educators in an attempt to close the widening gaps caused by the pandemic.

That's a shame. We used to live in Hollywood Santa Monica and Woodrow was about the only DISD public high school that was tolerable.

Truthfully the only good DISD schools are the magnets, and they are excellent.

Even Woodrow was only ever tolerable.

I agree with you. I have relatives and friends who live in the Mohawk, Bowie, Canyon Creek, and Prairie Creek Elementary school zones. All of them love the schools their kids attend and the district. We actually have thought about selling our place in Lucas if we can find the right house in Prairie Creek once our oldest graduates Lovejoy HS.
