Congrats to Lake Highlands High School for their entry into the SEC. I hope they are in our pod.

I knew Lake Highlands was on the decline, but I didn't know it was Waffle House bad.

I lived in apartments right around the corner from where the new Waffle House will be. Super duper sketchy. Panhandlers, strung out folks , and other interesting peeps always hanging around the Braums and Kroger.

Never ever would I consider that Lake Highlands. IMO, once you go north of Forest… you are out of it. Maps might say otherwise, but I lay no claim to that hood.

It is absolutely Lake Highlands unless you don't consider residences that feed into Lake Highlands High School to be Lake Highlands. I went to high school (at LHHS) with a guy who lived right across the street from that Braums.

And it's south of Forest.

It's 100% Lake Highlands. We used to live in Moss Farm and that Braums was frequented. That YMCA is called the Lake Highlands YMCA if I recall. True it doesn't have the "feel" of Walnut Hill/Audelia aka Lake Highlands Times Square but it's definitely Lake Highlands. To your point tho that forest and Greenville intersection is sketch.

"Actual proof" may say otherwise - yeah.

Yeah realized it's south of forest as I drove by this afternoon.

My point was, the area around there is a little sketchy. I think LH is pretty nice , and don't associate the Waffle House area / north of Forest with Lake Highlands… because.. again… it's sketchy.

I don't highlight those areas when I'm trying to convince friends to move this direction ( easy access to waffles at 2am might be a draw for some though!) . I also don't highlight the Dennys and the frakin STD billboard that's always above it.

That map doesn't even recognize the real Lake Highlands Neighborhood that is located South of Mockingbird at Buckner.

I've never considered anything North of LBJ to be Lake Highlands.

I wouldn't consider anything north of LBJ to be Lake Highlands, but I wouldn't consider the area you outlined as Lake Highlands either. That Braums (where the Waffle House is going in) is 100%, without a doubt, Lake Highlands.

That isn't my map...i justed quoted the post.

That map represents the part of Dallas that is in the Richardson School District that feeds into Lake Highlands High school.....but it really isn't Lake Highlands.

I would consider everything in North East Dallas South of LBJ to be "Lake Highlands" but the real Lake Highlands neighborhood is located South East of that Map in the DISD.

Old Lake Highlands is the elevated neighborhood above White Rock Lake near DISD's Hexter Elementarys. Think Buckner, Peavy, and Easton Roads. That whole area due east of the lake.

That map isn't really accurate at all. I would move everything on that map about 4 miles south to really get what is considered Lake Highlands.

I showed what Wikipedia calls Lake Highlands.

Here's what D Magazine calls Lake Highlands

https://neighborhoods.dmagazine.com/dallas/northeast-dallas/lake-highlands/

Here's what Zillow calls Lake Highlands.

https://www.zillow.com/lake-highlands-dallas-tx/

They all include areas north of I-635. Where have y'all ever seen that Lake Highlands does not include areas north of I-635?

Most people who grew up in Lake Highlands or nearby don't include that when referring to Lake Highlands. If you told me you just moved to Lake Highlands I would never think you moved to the area north of 635.

FTR I don't consider the part south of NW Hwy part of Lake Highlands either.

Is there a lake or any high land north of 635?

That area feeds into LHHS, but its not really Lake Highlands.

The Lake Highlands debate is like the South Dallas debate of what the Oak Cliff and South Dallas boundaries actually are.

What you don't consider Lake Highlands is the DISD part of Lake Highlands.....which if you went to an RISD school you might not have known as many kids south of NW HWY that were in the Dallas school district.

Old Lake Highlands is located due east of White Rock Lake just South, and East of Norbuck Park outside of the RISD boundaries. It's a neighborhood that is actually located near a lake, and is on a giant hill.
Lake Highlands Baptist Church is located in this neighborhood.

I consider real Lake Highlands to be the triangle around Buckner Rd to Garland Rd and South of NW HWY to Garland Rd again....which is all in the DISD.

Nowadays the Lake Highlands name has been compromised to be considered all the (RISD) neighborhoods in North East Dallas that feed into LHHS.

So, none of you can point to an online source - or three of them - like I did?

It's not proof. We are discussing what people consider Lake Highlands, not it's actual boundaries.

Your online sources aren't "proof"....they are just someone else's opinion...... and as someone quite familiar with that area...your map is just the the RISD part of Dallas that feeds into Lake Highlands High School.

I don't know of anyone that considers the neighborhoods north of 635 that border Richardson proper to be "Lake Highlands"....and as I mentioned before there is no lake or high land anywhere near that part of town.

The issue I have with your map is that it doesn't even include the original Lake Highlands neighborhood. The actual area that is near a lake and on high land.
The reason it doesn't is that the real Lake Highlands area feeds into the DISD.

Quote:

The neighborhood contains around 1,700 homes,[3] and is located inside the triangle formed by Lake Highlands Drive, Northwest Highway, and White Rock Lake. The area includes many parks along the creeks that feed into White Rock Lake including Norbuck Park at the southeast corner of Buckner and Northwest Highway.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Lake_Highlands,_Dallas

https://neighborhoods.dmagazine.com/dallas/east-dallas/old-lake-highlands/

Quote:

WELCOME TO OLD LAKE HIGHLANDS

Along the northeast side of White Rock Lake, the residents of this neighborhood are proud of its 70-plus year history and its unique position (elevation-wise) within the city, boasting a gorgeous view of the downtown skyline. One of Dallas ISD's best-performing elementary schools, Hexter, also serves as a rallying point for residents.

Oh - so the problem is you guys kept saying Lake Highlands when you MEANT OLD Lake Highlands.

They aren't the same thing. I'm still right and can cite sources - y'all are still wrong and are pulling definitions outta thin air.

I'm not sure I trust your sources. The irony of what you posted is that the home pictured above in Lake Highlands is in Old Lake Highlands because I know exactly where that house is located as I used to ride right by it. It's right next to the lake. Lol.

This is a very worthwhile thread. For what it's worth, I grew up in far north Dallas (unless WBT says I didn't) and I would never consider anything north of 635 as Lake Highlands, except for RISD zoning.

Having lived in DFW 20 years and following this board, there is not doubt that the Lake Highlands threads are the most controversial on numerous levels, followed by the classic Dallas vs. 'burb threads. In the early days it was Dallas vs FW but everyone seems to have moved on from those.
