We've got to take this sucker out!

Sent a child to the hospital yesterday and, according to our vet, it killed at least 2 pets in the last day. My kids were kept inside at school today because it made its way near the playground. Surely someone on here from the LH area has some weaponry to take care of this. Let's do this.

I would like to know more about what was going on with the 2 year old that was attacked.

Either way this will validate all the nextdoor Nancy's that continually freakout that a coyote may be present.

99% of animals that coyotes eat are less than 2 lbs and are not a real threat to pets or kids. Your kid is way more likely to get attacked by a neighborhood dog than a coyote.

I lived across from that greenbelt for 10 years and had dozens of interactions with coyotes over there. I always tried to make them "fearful" as to prevent them from getting comfortable with humans.

Only issue i ever had was I had to kill a racoon with distemper once. (With a baseball bat).

Happened just down the street from us. Kid was playing on the front porch but not sure if he approached the animal or was ambushed. Sounds like he's doing well and expects to be released from the hospital soon.

I doubt the coyote would approach a grown man with a dog but I was carrying on our evening walk in case I spotted it.

Several months ago I was outside of my fence one night taking a sunshade down and a coyote ran down White Rock trail, stopped and sized me up, before continuing to run down the street. Then another followed right afterwards. The first one was the biggest coyote I've ever seen - bigger than my German Shepherd. Pretty crazy for middle of a large city.

Not a video of the 2 year old, but of another child who went running from the coyote.

Mom and children were about to leave the house. 5 YO & 2 YO were on the front porch with mom inside. Coyote went up on the porch and grabbed the 2 YO by the shirt then pulled it off the porch and down the steps. Then bit the 2 YO on the head/face. 5 YO yells mom a coyote is attacking the 2 YO. Mom scared coyote into dropping the child. Then the coyote just paced the lawn for awhile.

USDA trackers killed 2 Coyotes Tuesday night. Game warden was out again today. No idea if it is the same coyote but he killed a dog in a backyard on Tuesday night and a dog who chased it on Wednesday.

Anyone else catch the lively chat on the city's live stream? My goodness the Karen's are out for blood.

Rip and Snort used to beat up Hank all of the time, never mind the other coyotes!

Hearing the 2-yr is doing well but the 5-yr old is pretty shook up. Hope they both get the treatment they need.

Heard that some neighbors had been feeding the coyotes by and has not been uncommon for families to be leaving out food for the feral cats. Coyotes not afraid of humans and willing to search in the open for easy prey makes for a bad combo.

Coyotes eat trash so everyone is feeding them. I imagine the population is up which is why the USDA had a contract to cull the population already in place.

The should have asked residents before contracting someone. I have several neighbors who retired early during covid that are likely bored enough to hunt coyotes for free.

I know for a fact that this coyote was reported multiple times to the city for chasing and stalking kids on a playground and that they said they would not respond or investigate at all. And that they're lying about it now that an incident happened. I get that coyote reports are ridiculous 99% of the time but this was different.

****'s gettin' real in East Dallas. Kind of miss the drama of that wild animal kingdom. Saw them all the time but I never really worried about it with my hoss of a dog we had when living there.

We did have some dumbasses in our neighborhood start feeding raccoons. Obviously, you had the entire raccoon population within 10 sq miles showing up at their house after about the second feeding once they told all of their friends.

First coyote attack on a human in Dallas in over 20 years. Not surprised that the reports were not taken seriously.

I knew someone would dispute whether this was really part of Lake Highlands.

Close......USDA did not have an existing contract, I called them in. I was assisting DPD and Game Wardens that morning. In consultation with USDA, I requested that DPD and the Game Wardens pull back and let things settle down.

There is no doubt there were many screwups. But I can tell you there were a number incidents in the previous week that went unreported that showed escalating behavior.

So you made the contract with the USDA?

Game wardens we're the one who told me the USDA had a contract. So I assumed it was something that had been signed previously.

No problem. USDA is confusing to many, including the Wardens. They are typically a fee for service agency, and actually do lot of wildlife removal in adjacent cities....under contract. Historically, Dallas has been reluctant to use them because they want carte blanche control to use firearms, something Dallas does not like to do. But, in a case like this they can come in without a contract under a health and safety doctrine. Them getting permission is nice then, but not actually required (they played nice).

I was at the ribbon cutting ceremony in Downtown, and actually called them as I left for WR. Once I realized the coyote was not likely hit, I called them back and they asked everyone to pull back.
