I was planning on getting lunch with a cousin. He has a meeting in Irving so we were looking to stay close by. I haven't explored Irving much so I was wondering if anyone had recommendations?

Thanks

It's hard for me to pass up Po Melvins when I'm in Irving.

Really depends on what sort of lunch you're looking for. If you're fine with a tiny place that serves empanadas, I'd suggest Empa Mundo on far North Beltline.

If you want something more high-end, Via Real in Las Colinas is pretty good.

Lamberti's on N. MacArthur is pretty good, as well.

I used to ride my bike to Po Melvin's when I was a kid. Spent a portion of our lawn mowing money there every other week or so. I hadn't thought about that place in almost 30 years.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Ranch came up with good reviews and then yalls recommendations so we will try that.

Angelos! Some excellent Italian dishes with a 70s soundtrack

The taco place inside the Exxon at Walnut Hill and Story. Yes that's 100% a real suggestion.

Also The Ranch is awesome, as is Po Melvins

Another vote for Lamberti's

As far as the north Irving chains:
Anything at Slim Chickens with their cayenne ranch. Also their lemonade is the best.

Torchys is Torchys.

Mattitos is good but Ana Mias in Coppell is better.

Lupe Tortilla, Mexican Sugar and Whiskey Cake are good choices if you want to overpay for overrated food.

Argentina Bakery at Beltline and 183 is a little coffeeshop/bakery, and their empanadas are infinitely better, and more authentic. Empa Mundo is fine if you want the overpriced Americanized versions (think the empanadas at On the Border).

If 30 years ago, then that was when it was still on Rochelle (my grandparents lived a street over on Hillcrest). They moved to the current location off of Belt Line later on (5 minutes from where I grew up and dad still lives). I still go there every chance I get and actually took my now wife there on our first date 20 years ago.

I don't think Cool River is open anymore. I'm not a big fan of The Ranch, but if that's what you like, fine. I'd really recommend you not go to Via Real. I seriously think people go there just because others say its good and it has a more upscale-like menu (i.e. higher than average prices). In other words, its a"keep up with the Jones" kind of place. I've been there at least 8 times and never had what I thought was a good meal. I think the same thing could be said for The Ranch (only been there a time or two), but the food at The Ranch is comparatively better than at Via Real.

Po Melvins or Angelos are solid choices. Angelos is not going to win any beauty awards. It pretty much looks the same as it did when I first went there 40 or so years ago. If you go to Po Melvins, ask for Mel if he's there. He's a bit of a character. His dad started the place at an old Dairy Queen building and then moved to the current location a few years later.
