What is the best route from Dallas to College Station?

I usually take 35-6 going down, and then 21-45 coming back with a stop in Madisonville at Buc-ees.

Take exit 172 in buffalo to Jewett and then ride that to Flynn and Normangee through to north zulch and then turn on to 21.

Will save you about 10 minutes ish vs going to madisonville and hopping on 21.

Depends on which part of "Dallas". Mid-cities or west, it's 35-6 easy. If you're east side, then 45-79-6 or 45-OSR-6

I come from the Richardson area. I've been doing this route regularly since 1975:

45-14-6

I've tried other routes but this one is consistently better. Especially since 6 is four lanes all the way now.

14 is bad. Small towns to slow down.

45-OSR-39-21 is a race track. You can easily go 85 on 45. 80 on 39 and 21 is a racetrack 4 lane all the way as well.

Only slowdown is maybe on the 13 mile stretch on OSR.

Hearne keeps their police force employed with Aggies speeding on 6.

It depends on whether I want to stop at Buccees or not.

The last couple of games I've gone down for, I have done same day trips. I quit taking highway 14 at night after a couple of near misses. One with an animal and one with a drunk.

I-45 to 14 was the way to go back when the speed limit on the interstate was only 55mph. Once it went to 70/75 (i.e. comfortably drive 80-85) staying on I-45 longer is the way to go. Either take 79 at Buffalo to 39-21 or OSR. OSR sucks but it's short, and be sure to slow down as you approach Normangee, got to meet a very professional DPS employee there.

From Dallas to CS there isn't 10 minutes difference in 45-14-6, 45-OSR-21, 45-21 or 35-6.

45-14-6 is the shortest distance wise by about 10 miles, but because of slowing down through the small towns it turns out about the same time. You better slow down because you will get a ticket.

45-OSR-21 - I don't like it at night and for a while OSR was about as bad a road as you could drive. Most of it is repaired now, but truck traffic is still problematic.

45-21 - is probably the easiest drive other than the 2 lane section of 21

35-6 - might be a couple minutes longer, but since 6 is 4 lanes now and 35 is mostly finished, it is an option.

I've done it from Frisco for almost 30 years now and will almost always take 45-14-6, but occasionally 45-OSR-21 during the day.

I've timed them all and done mileage and it really just comes down to personal preference.

45-21 route also gets preference due to having TWO Buc-ee's on the route.

Whatever you do please please please drive safe on 39 and OSR. There is no shoulder and the ditches are extremely deep in some places.

Heads up you might be coming across locals hauling hay on these roads during the day, so don't get all fussy when some ole boy is doing 55 balancing a roll in the bed of his truck.

Also, the stretch of 21 between Madisonville and North Zulch is notorious for fatal accidents. Please just pass in the passing zones and take it easy until you hit the Navasota bridge.

And if you are like me and want to avoid that Buc-ee's at all cost, consider the Highway 75 cutoff between 45 and 21 in Madisonville.

For the first few years at A&M I didn't have a car so I had to bum rides all the time. I've been every possible way and while everyone says theirs is the best the only difference is how fast you drive. No one way is significantly faster than the other.

Here's a question for those that take 35-6 on game days.

2818, university, or another route to Kyle?

I typically go 2818 to villa Maria. Parking pass is in west campus garage, and I also will sometimes pick my father in law up who lives near villa Maria and wellborn.

If the weather is good and dry and traffic is not ridiculous.. its TX-OSR. Hands down.

if parking in WCG... I would go 2818 down to Bush then to Olsen to get into the garage.

bingo. That being said, we're RVing down this weekend and will be going the 35-6 route. I don't feel like doing the 2-lane OSR or 21/39 at all pulling my TT. I'll stick to 4 lane divided the whole way instead.

45-OSR-39-21.

Class of 96 and have tried just about every way at least once over the years, and this is no doubt consistently fastest.

Woody's serves as the Buccee's substitute for a clean restroom break if needed. It's about 10-12 miles north of the OSR exit

When I have to go #2 I prefer to be at a Bucee's. The experience inside the men's room is second to none for being able handle your business.
I prefer Bucess for the BBQ Sandwiches, and the exotic fudge.

In the future its good to know that Woody's is a good alternative if you suddenly get the bubble guts and have already passed the Bucces.

Woody's has definitely copied the model in a much smaller format. There are both north and southbound locations at the same exit which speeds things. Lots of solid food choices, albeit not Buccees. Also has a lot of the pre-packaged "Buccees brand" items on jerky, trail mix, candy, etc., just with a Woody's label. It looks like it comes from the same copacker
