Fair enough - most of my ties to it are nostalgia, but the nachos, tortilla soup, and rice and beans are fantastic. The other stuff is hit or miss but when you've been going there almost 40 years.....

We went to Mi Charrito's for 20 years before I finally realized it was dog *****

Don Artemios is the best thing that's hit FW in some time. It's my favorite by a mile. Being a relative newcomer to the area (Overton Park), and not encumbered by the history of some of these places, I think The Original is good but not great. Heim is my favorite BBQ, but Panther City is not far behind. For a simple lunch spot, Local Food Kitchen off of Hulen is great.

We cater Reata at the office a lot, and it is consistently good. I leave it to the experts on the rest of the recommendations, but suffice to say we have many great options in Cowtown.

I love Reata. Back when downtown was really hopping I think I ate their a lot more often due to being at the rooftop bar and just deciding to eat. Nowadays I rarely travel into downtown to eat aside from Grace.

I've heard it's quite pricey. $25 for a margarita pricey.

Except for The Original.

No matter how in vogue it somehow became in the last 15 years, it's still trash. If Caros rose from their restaurant grave, I'd eat that ****ty joint before The Original.
It opened in 1926. So somebody liked it before then.

It is polarizing - people either hate it or it is their favorite restaurant in town.

It's not somewhere you would go on a regular basis, but for a special night or business dinner, it's outstanding. The service is top notch. Not sure about margarita prices, but I wouldn't disagree it could be $25

RE: Artemios... It's super pricey. And often times can be lacking in certain areas. We got their guacamole appetizer that came with little tortillas as opposed to chips... ok, cool. Except they gave us 4 of them for the table of 4. We could have each caked the torilla with guacamole and still had plenty left over, but it was like twisting their arm for more tortillas, and we were charged for each set we did get.

I still thought the food was great, and you could tell authentic... Just didn't seem like they had hammered out all the portion sizes yet.

Yeah, but in the 90's no one went to The Original. Then sometime after the millennia it became somewhat of a social spot.

I guess you could say the same for Uncle Julios, as I don't remember it being anything like what it is now.

I went to the Original in high school during lunch breaks in the 90's. Went back I think 3 years ago because a friend likes it and it was sub-par, confirming my memories. It's probably already been posted but I don't understand why you would choose to go there with other options. You like what you like.

Railhead has excellent ribs and ice cold beer. I also really like their fries with grilled onions. Just down the street from Dickies.

Reading this thread makes me miss living in Cowtown. Spent seven years there and all of these places mentioned are home runs. Thankful I still get to visit quarterly but living and visiting are two different things.

If the weather is good grabbing drinks on the Reata rooftop is one of the best experiences in town.

Where were you in the 90s? Julio's has had a wait since Tia's was still in business

Most of my favorite places in FTW have been mentioned.

I will go to Happy Hour at The Railhead to have cold, cheap beer and people watch. Saw Daryl Johnston in there with another huge dude and their wives - DJ and other dude went off somewhere - couple of other dudes came up and started hitting on their smokin' hot wives - quite entertaining when DJ came back.

Will defend Railhead. Comfort BBQ in FW for me. Fries are great and the beer is a steal. Great place for BBQ if you don't want to get real adventurous.

Does Railhead have good BBQ? I dunno.

Does Railhead have good BBQ after 3 ice cold schooners of beer on the patio at $2 a pop? Absolutely.

There ain't nothing wrong w/ Railhead bbq and a few ice cold beers and not getting racked over the coals. Similar to Joe T's, after you get a couple of those margaritas in you they could serve you gravy train and you would think it was the best enchilada dinner ever

Just had the Thurs special at Buffalo Bros, chicken enchiladas w/ green sauce and it was excellent. Comes w/ rice & beans and chips & salsa. Highly recommend!

Since this is becoming another FW food thread, exciting news about the new additions to the Felipe Armenta family of brands.

I can't access that article but I assume it's about the new French place going in on Bellaire and Hulen and the BBQ place on University. I am excited about that, we live in the Tanglewood area about 1 minute away from the Tavern and it's one of our favorite restaurants. Huge fan of Press Cafe, Pacific Table and Maria's too!

Yes it's about that French restaurant going in the old corner bakery as well as an Italian place planned and apparently a new steak place. He's also hired some fancy celebrity chef to run it all. We live in Overton just down Hulen and love the area as well.

We went to paloma suerte in the stockyards over the weekend. It was excellent. We knew nothing about (it's a Tim Love place) when we walked in & really enjoyed it.

Haven't tried the new location. Been to the old location numerous times. It's awesome! Burgers, chicken fried steaks, loaded fries (cheese, onions, jalapeños, bacon, and ranch) and of course cold beer

Someone mentioned the restaurant in the Drover hotel in the Stockyards. Seriously disappointing meal there recently, FWIW. Skip it and go to Lonesome Dove instead.

Yeah 97 West is pretty mediocre. If you are right there, Provender Hall is a better choice.
