I have some Irish descent family coming into town from Podunk, TX. One of the things they want to do while in the big city is go to an authentic Irish bar/restaurant. I googled such and about 2 dozen bars/restaurants came up many of which are not even closely authentic (Sherlock's). Anyone recommend some that are actually authentic or close to?

Love Irish fare.

Best for realism is Skelligs, but it's up in McKinney.

Gillispies isn't bad but not sure I'd call it authentic.

Best one was Trinity Hall at Mockingbird, but they didn't survive the pandemic sadly. Thanks dip**** Dallas

Where is Skelligs in McKinney. I haven't heard of that one and I've lived in McKinney for 3 years now

Not sure how authentic the venue is, The Celt McKinney,
But these boys, Behan, are a lot of fun.
Their dad, +God rest his soul +, was from Ireland and taught them how to play. Their music and entertainment will more than make up for any lack of authenticity from the venue.

The Celt is good, but it is small and gets packed quickly

Were you needing close to Plano?

I've not yet been to Ireland so can't vouch for authenticity, but I keep meaning to try The Playwright in the Dallas Arts District -- good reviews, and apparently owned by an Irishman. It's in a new-ish building but the inside looks cool.

The Dubliner on Lower Greenville is a good spot in an old building -- especially on a weeknight when it's not too nuts. I don't know about the food there.

LOL @ Sherlock's -- good call, passing on that one.

Trinity College in Fort Worth is about the best in the area, but only a handful of authentic Irish dishes.

But they do have Guinness on tap, which is a must.

I go to Lochland's in East Dallas regularly. Great place with a nice outdoor area, and occasionally live music out back. They get pretty packed when there is rugby or hurling on, which is fun, but it doesn't really have the ambiance of a traditional Irish pub. To me the most authentic is Cannon's Corner Irish Pub in N Oak Cliff, next to the Kessler Theater

They had their St Patrick day menu so limited and no adjustments. It was okay and drinks were good even though in plastic cup. But now I've downgraded below okay.

Well, that's too bad. Been good when I went, but I never tried going on SPD.

Of course, I just get scotch eggs, shepherd's pie and Guinness.

The Celt McKinney was legit.

The Irish band was very good.

The food was authentic.

They had Guinness on draft.
