A few years ago there was an Aggie that worked at the Omni in FW and would post about contacting him if Aggies were headed to town. Anyone know of or how to contact him if he is still there?

He's not at the Ft Worth Omni anymore. I believe he moved to an Omni in California. I can't remember his handle, but it was something like puti.

It was putu. Great guy. Helped us out there a bunch of times. Been gone at least 10 years. Went to Palm Desert Omni resort I believe. May have moved on from there by now.

Omni FW is still pretty nice for a quick staycation. Wish the area around there was thriving a little more.

It's a great staycation…..would be better if downtown wasn't being turned into an uppity Dallas wannabe art gallery fufu snooze fest.

Yup.

If you want a night out in FW, the Stockyards on a Saturday is where it's at. Was there last week. Place is packed, tons of live music options, food and drink everywhere, open container rules. Was a great night. Parking and traffic at Main and Exchange sucks but that's the only downside.

The Stockyards are kicking downtown's ass right now.

Ya. Downtown sucks now. Sad. So very sad.

It's a shame how far it's fallen, when I moved here from Houston in 2010 I thought "well the skyline is weak but at least downtown is vibrant and has a lot to do". Now I basically only go there for the Main Street Art Festival once a year.

Putu was such a great dude and connection there. I proposed to my wife at the Omni on the 14th floor balcony and he helped set up the perfect weekend for us

Stockyards is awesome. It was cool 10 years ago but it really has stepped up its game.

The only thing I go downtown for now is the symphony. It's a shame what has happened to Sundance Square.

Well, I go to the Library and the Flying Saucer every now and then as well.

For nightlife, yea The Stockyards. For shopping and dining, Clearfork is awesome.

I just can't believe what has become of downtown Fort Worth. With all of the population explosion in Tarrant county, it's so sad to have a completely dead downtown area. Everytime we go, there's something else that has shut down.

Just don't understand it....

Sasha Bass is a big part of the reason. She decided to turn it into more of an artsy fartsy area and to do so ran off some regular businesses. Problem is no one is interested in that artsy fartsy crap. So the death spiral began, and once that happens, it's hard to stop. Also, Bass private security really kept the area cleaned up and feeling safe for many, many years. Feels like they have either slacked off or are just losing the battle, because there is much more of a sketch vibe now.

Sasha Bass is basically 100% of the reason. There isn't a more hated person in town.

The last time I stayed at the Omni, I was surprised how run down and dated the room looked. It's not even in the top 5 best hotels in Fort Worth anymore, in my opinion. Bowie House and Drover are tied for 1st if you're just looking at the hotel itself. The restaurant in Bowie House is superior, but the neighborhood around Drover is more lively. Both have great pools/poolside service. After that, Kimpton Harper, Sinclair, and Crescent are all solid. And I'd honestly stay at the AC downtown before I booked at the Omni again, though I know they aren't the same tier of hotel.

And the Sasha Bass situation continues to mystify me. Surely turning downtown into a gallery district wasn't a real business strategy that she thought would be successful? The way she went about running off longtime tenants seemed more like an unhinged attempt to intentionally run the area into the ground than anything else. Though I can't imagine what her motive was. Sad. I lived downtown in my late 20s and it was so much fun. Now we go down there for bass hall, and that's it.

Definitely the Stockyards is the place to go over downtown, from a local!
