Cross posted on the golf board. I live near the corner of Allen, Plano, McKinney, and Frisco. Can I get a golf pro or instructor recommendation for swing help?
I recommend the Golf-tec in Allen (or other location/similar facilities). Assuming you've played at least some -- if not, see if you can sign up for a beginner lessons package at a local course that will introduce you to the game and let you play a few off-peak hour rounds. If you're already playing, Golf-tec or other video lessons is the way to go. You need to see what you're doing, compare that against a model swing, and you'll improve based on that.
Constantly pounding the brick hard range balls in search of a better game is NOT going to help you improve. It just ingrains bad habits.
It's an investment but I would have never been able to break 90 without taking lessons.
Stopped taking them 6 years ago when I had my first kid. I need to fire it back up I think. Have developed some bad habits and can't seem to get back to my pre-kid game.
If you've been playing more than beginner level, I wouldn't recommend Golf Tec. I would recommend Colin at IGP in Frisco.
Much more high level lessons.
Interesting. Any other notes? I'm near there and looking to get back into some lessons. My game has plateau'd after a long layoff. Got down to about an 8 HDCP and now can't really get passed a 13-15.
I probably mentioned already, but Pablo Del Olmo is the best private coach I've ever had in any sport. Plus, no pressure, either to leave the lesson or keep coming back. I've seen him about 5 or 6 times. He trains outdoors (weather permitting), then takes you inside for a video he sends with commentary about what to work on. I think the lessons are 45 minutes, but I've never left before about an hour save one occasion where he had an appointment right after me. Even then, he told me to go to the range and then came by to check on me.
Last time, I asked him when I should come back for my next lesson, and he told me "Golf's supposed to be fun! Go and play. Come back when it stops being fun and we'll work on fixing that!" Never tried to sell me a package or subscription or anything.

Colin took me from about an 8 to my most recent +0.3. He does a good job of teaching you how to manage your own game. He doesn't put you in a strict box of how to do things perfectly, but shows you why the technical positions benefit consistency compared to what is currently going on in the swing.
I actually haven't had a lesson from him in about 6 months, but as I've gotten better, I film my swing when things go wrong, and generally have been able to go back to a lesson recording to fix it. He also is pretty chill about things like playing lessons, and shooting a random video over text to get some quick feedback.

Nice. I inquired about the assessment. Jeepers they're expensive. $300 for an assessment?
Thank you for sharing! Saw in his bio that he coached my former roomie, Bronson Burgoon, who made an incredible chip that basically secured our 2009 National Championship! I will definitely check out Pablo Del Olmo's class schedule.
Yeah, that's just hourly scaled up. My assessment was 2.5 hours. Starts with fitness and mobility test and all that then gets into swing and game, and ends with a taste tester type lesson. Although mine was a few years ago, so I think it was only 250$

Had my first lesson with Pablo del Olmo yesterday and was very impressed! I haven't played golf in 16.5 years so I'm very rough. I warmed up outside and then we started with videos inside. A few tweaks and I saw instant improvement. I'm going to work on 2 or 3 key items over the next few weeks and return for another lesson. As you said, no pressure plus incredible knowledge and great delivery.
I will share a video if someone tells me how to post an MP4 file.
