Anyone have any good companies or contractors that you had good experiences with? We are wanting to completely replace our current driveway, around 3,000 square feet or so, maybe a little more. We have young kids so may want to talk to them about carvestone or other products for a basketball court (not sure on all the details and what's best there) but may not end up going that route.

We spoke to two different people/companies earlier this year. One was not very responsive and the other quoted us something like $90k which was outrageous considering we were not talking about anything special.

Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.

Would this be rip out and replace? Or are you adding additional driveway?

Rip out and replace. We will likely want to add a little more to it but most of it will be rip out and replace.

Well I can tell you that if you're looking at something other than broomed or salted concrete, $90k is probably in the ballpark. It might be a little high but not much. You're probably looking at a 6" thick slab but the kicker is if you want a specialty finish, carve stone, etc. I can tell you if you want carve stone that is a separate topping over a concrete deck. So you pay for the concrete then you pay for the topping. Topping starts at around $10/sf, concrete slab is probably $8-10/sf. Then sealant which I'm sure they're charging around $3-5/sf. After that 20-30% profit.

You have a lot of SF which unfortunately is driving up the price. Unless you just want the look, you'd be better off with broomed or broomed & salted concrete for longevity. If you want a little more pop, get washed aggregate. Otherwise over time, the topping will start coming up or you'll hate the stamp pattern eventually and the color will fade out.

Also I've found stamped concrete and toppings to be quite slippery when wet.

I build pools but we pour a lot of concrete decks.

Where are you located?

Thanks for all the info. Really appreciate it.

The $90k wasn't for carvestone or any other premium topping. It was just for a standard concrete, which I assume would have been broomed. The other quote was around $30k, which we found to be about what we were expecting. We were thinking it would be somewhere between $20-40k depending on who we hired and what all we wanted.

Carvestone may not be what we want at all. We aren't worried about the look of carvestone and don't care about any special pattern to make it look good. We have young kids and thought carvestone may be better for a basketball court/sports court, but that may not even be the case. A medium broomed finish may be better or just as good as carvestone for a sports surface. We definitely don't want anything slippery. We were hoping to speak with whoever we hired about different options. One of the people we spoke to said he would definitely not recommend carvestone for a sports surface and one said that they would recommend it. So we didnt get a good answer me either way there. We know that carvestone or some other surface would add to the price. But we wouldn't need it for the entire surface if we did end up going that route.

Edit to add: we are in Lucas.

Also I forgot to include demo which will probably be $3-5/sf.
