Live in Plano. Work in North Dallas. Interested if anyone has had good experience with a sleep doc within 30 minutes of those areas.

I had a sleep study done 10+ years ago that indicated 'mild' sleep apnea that has probably gotten worse. Snoring definitely has gotten worse. PCP gave me a recommendation but I can't even get a call back from the office to schedule an appointment which can't be a good sign...

Dr. Robert Wyatt

I'm going through the motions of getting a deviated septum/nasal/tonsil surgery to fix my severe sleep apnea. Dr. Wyatt maybe spends about 5-10 min with you on the Dr's visits, so he direct and clear (which i appreciate).

Couple of thoughts, having messed with this stuff a lot over the years.

Be REALLY REALLY wary and careful with any "sleep" doctor that sells the dental appliances. In my experience, they are basically scammers and the appliances end up causing a lot of collateral problems. Happy to share details off line. But it was pretty bad.

I think the best starting point is probably a good ENT. I cannot recommend Dr Morris Gottlieb highly enough. He is over at Methodist at Renner and 190. Got his name from here and he was great.

Thanks for the feedback so far!

Ironically, my original sleep study was kicked off by my dentist who recommended a mouthguard/snoreguard due to seeing evidence of teeth grinding. I balked at the cost of the custom dental appliance and went with an over-the-counter snoreguard that has caused many more issues than it solved so I can appreciate the apprehension on appliances.

Interesting that both docs recommended so far are ENTs...sounds like that's the way to go.

A dental guard to protect against grinding is different. I was referring to any appliance that moves your jaw to prevent snoring. Sad thing is that they help, but the body eventually has issues from permanently moving something into an unnatural position.

And yes, I think a good ENT is the best place to start. They handle the things that Puryear mentioned. I have had those worked on as well.

I had the septum surgery and it didn't help at all. Still needed a cpap

Not saying you don't need the septum done, but I'd guess pretty much every ENT will recommend it.

I also had my tonsils taken out at the same time. I didn't even notice the septum surgery or breathing through bloody straws bc my throat hurt so damn bad.
