Should make the traffic at the DNT/635 Interchange absolutely chaotic...

Well, this is the worst kept secret in the Metroplex.

Next will be Stars to Plano?

I hope the stars stay in DTD. Us Fort Worth people love being able to go to the games. TRE is so convenient

It is insane that the aac arena is being kicked to the curb.

I last attended an event at the aac a couple years ago arena (Roger Waters concert) ... it still seems relevant, modern (comparing it to Madison Square Garden... I attended a Nicks game at MSG in March).

What doesn't the aac have that the Stars &/or Mavs demand? Parking? More, bigger suites, larger concourses?

Pretty sure I was promised aerial gondolas for the redevolped Valley View (checks notes) 13 years ago. I don't believe for a second Beck Ventures was just throwing sheet out there, there were artist renderings and everything!
Quote:

Yes, Scott has big plans to revamp "Midtown" but also connect it to the city. There will be hike and bike trails connecting to White Rock Lake, the parks, open spaces, a trolley system and Gondola rides to Galleria (what? Don't drop me on LBJ!), interactive water features throughout the development, including a wave pool and Ariel Show Fountains, two luxury hotels, upscale condos and rental apartments, office towers, 16 screen movie theater, boutiques, restaurant and entertainment venues

Do you think the recent smoke about city hall was to get a better deal at valley view?

Land that can be developed so they're not "only" making money off the arena.

Exactly. They want to own the real estate around the arena.

Ross Perot Jr owns everything around the aac.

Cuban pretty much confirmed this when he sold to the Adelsons. He said owning a team wasn't so much about owning the team anymore. It's a real estate game now to help fund the team

It's also too easy to get to the AAC via Dart so they can't make as much on parking

Sports owners have to ruin everything. Constantly demanding new stadiums every 15-20 years so they can make more money while also making the taxpayers pay for most of the build

I get the Stars wanting to move to Collin County because that is where much of their fanbase lives, but besides the real estate motives discussed above this makes no sense.

They just scrapped a office tower and parking garage across lbj, wonder if that was related

I think its great for the area. VV used to be nice, now its all paper plates and homeless. Anything that cleans it up is welcome.

Preston 635 traffic already sucks so locals should already know a good bypass by now. would be nice if they could add another texpress exit right to the arena and skip the midway and inwood mess heading east

This is a lesson in vertical integration and how rich people make money for the metroplex.

Negotiate tax incentives from the city, get money from the city via bonds.
Use the bonds to buy the land.
Hire an architecture firm to design the buildings and plan a development on your land.
Hire your construction company to build them all.
Sell the buildings to your property holding company.
Have your holding company lease the stadium to your team, the land around it to your parking lot company, and all the businesses that want space nearby (e.g., apartments, hotels, restaurants, bars).
Collect money from attendance, concessions, parking.
Use that money to pay your rent to your holding company, along with the rents you collect from your other tennents.
Use that to pay the loans you gave yourself on the building construction.
Each company then takes the payments (to you) off the gross and pays the minimum they can in net taxes.

With the new Plano Stars arena and McKinney amphitheater and Mavs at VV ... will be awesome to no longer having to drive to the ancient, dated Dos Equis/Smirnoff/Starplex amphitheater and the aac for concerts

Rock on. \m/

I wonder how long it'll take Jerry Jones to figure this out about his stadium here in Arlington.

The Rangers own and are developing the land around both these stadiums. It took long enough, but Texas Live!, the new hotels, the new convention center - the Rangers are piecing together that highly desired mixed use money maker.

The Death Star is 17 years old now.

Embarrassingly ancient really.

And while we're at it, that ballpark out there is on the wrong side of five. Better start lining up some taxpayer dollars to replace it too.

haha can you imagine if the Cowboys moved? We'd then have TWO obsolete stadiums sitting there.

The people whose homes got condemned to build Jerryworld are probably still alive. Maybe they could move back into the suites and live there again?

Had a friend freshman year of high school who was one of those families. I imagine he still hates the Cowboys.

How long did Dallas keep Reunion Arena around before they finally imploded it, nearly 10 years limping along on indoor soccer and second-rate concerts? Reunion was built in 1980 and was used for 19 basketball seasons I believe, plus the Stars after they came to town in '93.

By the team both teams leave AAC in 2031 it will be 31-32 years old. A better run, but Reunion was crappy and obsolete basically the day it opened.

what made it crappy and obsolete from 79-mid 90s? No Suites? Big pixel TV? I thought it was the best of the 3 until BPinA was built. Desperados were fun for once a season or so after AAC took over

So, I guess the Mavs were offered IM Pei City Hall site but turned it down. Watching Dallas implode in real-time is pretty incredible.

Stars, Mavs, AT&T, Neiman Marcus, Fifth Third Bank (Comerica). Dallas County losing population for the first time in decades.

Will be damn near impossible to recover from this.

Not without drastic changes in how the city does things, but that won't happen.

Some on tne last concerts I attended at Reunion Arena: Rush (Power Windows tour I believe) and Van Halen (Balance tour).

Damn... that was a long time ago. I am old.

Some Dallas people get triggered when you attribute certain areas of Dallas to things not technically in that area.

It's stupid and comes off as extremely snobbish. I've found it's most common with people who grew up inside loop 12. Park cities, Lakewood, lake highlands, etc.

You capitalize Lake Highlands or GTHO
