Thai Village in Rice village closing after 35-years.

Covid and inflation caused by covid laid waste to how many restaurants now?

Hardly ever see Thai places going tits up, especially right next to a college.

They must've jacked the rent so high it was non viable.

Aroy Thai is a fairly new place at I-10 and Kirkwood (where Just GRK used to be). It's pretty tasty.

Rice Village has been turning over tenants for a while now.

Definite push to bring in more high end businesses, which makes sense for the area.

COVID was 5 years ago and if they survived until now I doubt this was COVID related.

I don't think Rice Village cares about catering to college students anymore. In fact they haven't for a long time. Most of the bars have closed up and nothing there seems appealing or in the price range for a 18-22 year old. Even ones that can afford Rice.

Thai Village was pretty meh last time I went IMO. Granted that was pre-COVID when I still lived over that way.

In any event, best Thai food in Tine is Asia Market at 4822 Fulton St.

RIP Thai Gourmet! One of the best!

And yes, Asia Market Thai is da bomb

Also we just discovered a new spot in Spring on 2920… Tic Tac Thai. I've eaten there only a few times but it is very good. Don't think it will last though, peeps in that area just don't seem to like Thai.

Where is Up Thai? I like to go to Thai Curry at 290 and Barker but would like another option.

If you're ever in Clear Lake Thai Stellar and Merlion (more fusion, but upscale) are excellent.

Love this place. The drunken noodle (pad kee mao) is better than the same at Thai Gourmet back in its prime imo. It's freaking delicious.

They have the spicy chicken noodle dish like Thai Gourmet? That stuff was amazing.

On most dishes. you pick your protein and spice level. If you're on the westside of town, it's worth a stop.

Yep, I would say the Pad Thai is on par with Thai Gourmet.

This place is legit (Aroy Thai). If they go under, then that leasing space is just cursed.

This. Hole in the wall, shopping strip, unassuming. Best Pad Thai that I have ever had, and it is consistently good.

If you are further in town, same owner or at least chef/menu as Trinity street food tucked into very back of the center on SE corner of Woodway and Bering. I walk over from my office once a week around the corner and it is very good.
