Steak 48 would rank #1 on the most overrated restaurant to open in Houston the last 20 years list.

Before we vote, I'd like to nominate Mo's Place for Steak.

Doris Metropolitan is new to Houston, but I went to the one in New Orleans and it was great. Really cool steakhouse.

They're chains and not local or expensive enough for Tine Board standards. Absolutely nothing wrong with the OP taking his girl there.
Perry's by me is Sugar Land costs just as much as the other places mentioned and their food and wine is a solid step below. Pork chop on Friday? sure. happy hour burger in the bar? sure. steak dinner? no f'n way.

RIP. Great for watching old rich dudes and strippers in bar, though.

Their Friday chop lunch is freakin' great.

Poor, broke jja......member of a badass country club, season tickets to all Aggie sporting events, etc. Too bad he cannot afford a nice meal without starving the rest of the month.

You asked the original question as if you knew exactly what cellar selection meant.

I don't know what ALL it entails. I just know the ribeye I ordered from it that was like 40 days dry aged was one of the best steaks I've ever had. And I've had ribeye at all the other places I mentioned.

This. When my wife and I went it was fantastic. Bread service is incredible as was all the appetizers.

Speaking of....need to go back soon.

If you are thinking of something different than all the other steakhouses Doris is something to try - it's a Jewish steakhouse. Lots of great flavors/spices.

I'm comfortable saying Fleming's ain't it. Went tonight for my moms birthday. The wife and I are trying to eat less so we split a salad, steak and sides. Bone in ribeye, while cooked perfectly, was not very flavorful.

Honestly had a hanger steak at Longhorn steakhouse the other day that had better flavor. Not my choice of places for a work lunch but it wasn't bad for $14!!

I'm certainly not suggesting it, just saying that $14 job tasted better than the $58 job we had tonight.

Well, our 7th anniversary is about a month out and the wife and I will be going to Brenner's that weekend. The local place we like to go to each year still hasn't recovered from Harvey, so we're trying somewhere different this year.

Chimichurri's in Kingwood.

Edit...now that I'm looking at it, they may be back open. We drove through that area a few weeks ago and nothing looked to be open. Huh. I'll have my wife drive by today to see. If so, that's where we had our first date and were married exactly 2 years later. So 7th anniversary, 9 years together. Sappy, I know. If they are open, Brenner's may have to wait.

No kidding......they better be making sure you have your choice of females going down on you for that.

"Meh" on the steak only.

Unfortunately rule #1 on the Amex is literally no strippers or whoers on the company card.

Interestingly enough there is no rule #2, and when I asked about buying blow if a drug dealer uses the square app, I didn't get a hard "no"

It gets bashed on here, but we went at Christmas time for dinner with the fam, waited less than 20 min, and my NY Strip was amazing. I hadn't been there in years and was surprised. All sides were great as well.

Supposedly per people on here, they don't use USDA prime (they should for the price they charge) but I couldn't tell a diff. It was phenomenal.

Ambiace was nice too, but I'm not offended by wrought iron decor and images of rural Texas on the walls. I don't need to think I'm in a genuine speakeasy or a contemporary arts museum to have a great dinner and good time with fam/friends like some of the more delicate and insecure types on here.

hope you spent a few minutes examining the museum quality Texas history items that Nina has collected displayed all over the walls. Even have a fairly hard to find Crockett signature and some Santa Anna collectables. Texas history is a passion for the owners and they are proud of their collection.

I love Taste of Texas. But I don't see how it could be considered the best in town.

Their steaks are pretty dang good. They just happen to be one of the restaurants that this board is going to marginalize as much as possible, moatly because of the DIY salad bar.

Food is well worth the price, owners are great people, lots of neat Texas history on the walls, nothing really bad about the place.

The salad bar is one of the best in town. We go there just for the soup n salad option when we aren't in the mood for a steak. Great selection, fantastic breads and of course one of the major food groups ...cheese !! I can't even fathom why anyone would prefer any premade salad over ToT's salad bar

I like Taste of Texas. Best key lime pie in town too...

One place I haven't seen mentioned yet that doesn't get the respect it deserves (and probably not in the running for best in town, but I'll mention it anyway) is Jonathan's the Rub. Went tonight. The rib and I shared a big double cut pork chop. When you split a meal there they charge you but they give you a second side and a second salad. Mashed Yukon gold garlic potatoes were awesome, Greek salad was on point. Meatball app was good too.

Their steaks are really very good and their wine list is very reasonably priced (for restaurant prices).

Deserves the blue parachute in the rough award.

Saw Juan (one of the owners) at church last weekend and he told me he was hoping they'd open around June 1.

Went there a couple months ago and the service was bad and the steaks were average at best.
