The hookers.

(Could be either a suggestion or something to avoid, depending on the friend)

Morton's?

Been a while, I admit, but the meals I had there were not good. Is my memory off?

so the hookers hang out in the bar? do they let people do that in the Covid world? ie, can someone just show up with no reservation and grab a drink in the bar?

I've never been to bar, would like to check this scene out when buddy comes to town.

yes, you are free to show up to a restaurant and eat and/or drink at a table or bar provided they are not full. If they are full, you may be asked if you would like to wait until they are less full.

Does this thread go back far enough to catch the original hooker spot -- Mo's, A Place for Bro's and Ho's and Pro's?

You could actually get a good steak there back in the day, and the pro talent was off the charts.

I always found Sullivan's to be more of a cougar hunt than pros, but that may have depended on the night.

I do know that it was about 98% effective panty drop success on a date.

I think they were both kind of hybrid joints where the line was quite blurred between the pro's and the coug's

Can one of you people tell me about guard and grace? Looking at taking my wife to dinner up in Denver soon and I see there's one of these back home in the tine. Just curious as to how it compares with all of the usual suspects back home.

I like it, although I rarely actually get steak there - the black cod dish is fugging awesome

And the little chocolate chip cookies at the end - holy balls

It's a good spot. Only really go there for lunch, which is still very good. Not sure how crowded or busy it is at night, but always has a big lunch crowd.

Fish bowl is really good too.

Jock - It is legit. Do it. I live in Denver and Guard and Grace is our go-to spot for a high end dinner.

Met an old friend of mine passing through town the other day at Federal American Grill off Katy Fwy. Had a filet with lump crab meat topping - it was extremely good, would recommend. Tender, cooked perfectly to med-rare and Pittsburgh style. Truffle mac was delicious.

I know they aren't in the top 5-10, but don't overlook them either.

Sullivan's was the one right on Westheimer just inside the Loop past Hotel Derek (RIP) wasn't it? Had the bar "Ringside" attached to it??

That was definitely prime cougar hunting grounds in the early '00s.

What was the steakhouse in Highland Village on Westheimer that had the green & white awning? I can't remember how long it's been gone.

And I won't claim it's the "best" but having been to Georgia James a few times, including once at their new location, it's really damn good.

Anybody ever go to Old San Francisco Steakhouse that was on Westheimer out near Fountain View & Voss/Fondren, IIRC?

Went there once because my MiL wanted to go. I couldn't tell you what the food was like. All I remember was the chick on the swing over the dining room.

Yes! It was where the Target/CFA is now. In the late 90's, a colleague scheduled a business dinner there to woo a potential hire and it did not go over well. After that, any dinners for our team were scheduled for either Taste Texas or Las Alamedas (RIP).

Only been once, was not impressed. Didn't have a steak but our meal was cold.

Actually had a great steak at Ciro's for our anniversary a year ago. Juicy, tasty, and pasta for the side.

How was it medium rare and Pittsburgh at the same time? Pittsburgh is charred on the outside and rare on the inside.

I have been to the one in downtown Denver next to the Hilton. It was an excellent meal. I think we ate there twice in the few days we were there.

I've been to that Denver location no less than a dozen times over the years, and the one here twice.

Its a good restaurant, but for Houston steakhouses I think there are a few better options. It is probably the best in Denver, at least in the downtown area as far as I know.

I've always heard Pittsburg as charred on the outside, never that it must be rare. It was charred perfectly on the outside and a perfect medium rare on the inside.

Having never heard of Pittsburgh style, google seems to show it's basically a black and blue steak, charred on the outside, raw inside.

That said, it's like everything else in the food world and has adapted to people's tastes, so some sites have added a sentence saying "The level of doneness and charring can vary depending on taste."

To bring back to the thread, about to head to Taste of Texas for lunch, hoping they didn't just lose power....

So Pittsburgh has no idea how to cook steaks is what you are telling me.
