call me in idiot, but I thought that Texas was going to be docked next to Elissa? I can see how Tillman would be pissed, but Texas would not block the view at Katies. Now, if she would be docked in front of Katies I could see the argument, but I was under the assumption she would be west of Katies?

The original plan was to dock it next to the Elissa but Tillman opposed that because it would block the view of the ship channel from his restaurant (Fisherman's Wharf) so he convinced the city/port to move the location next to Katie's restaurant, blocking the view of their patrons. Katie's is opposing the new location for the same reason Tillman opposed the original plan.

Maybe people frequenting restaurants on the water prefer the even more awesome view of water with boats and ships passing by. You'd have to be an idiot to not see how this would be bad for restaurant owners.

Have you ever been there? I've eaten at Katie's once (when it was new and I didn't know it was the Temple of Satan), and at Fisherman's Wharf countless times going back to pre-Tillman days when they actually sold seafood like a market. Most of the seating at both places is interior; so the beautiful view of tugboats or rigs on their way out to the gulf are limited anyway. I guess the view is special at night when you can see blinking lights out in the water?

Looking at the size of the Texas compared to the cruise ships and barges, I think Galveston can come up with an answer if they want to.



Has there ever been any discussion about TAMU-G getting involved in hosting?

I think the problem with Pelican Island is that it's a remote location and would not generate the attendance ($$$) to be feasible. Pretty much the same issue it had at San Jacinto. And the bridge to Pelican Island needs to be replaced and the details haven't been worked out on where it will be located.
