Thats my fault for hijacking the thread and talking about sewer. But I had multiple sewer plumbing and foundation contractors come out and give me bids for the sewer portion which is who does this type work, but thanks for your expert opinion on thinking this half of us we are all getting fleeced when we are gonna pay the same as you would.

I'll just say this about Michael Busch, we used him for the plumbing inspection a few years ago based on " I think" the seller's realtor's recommendation. Everything checked out and we closed on the house. 3 weeks after we closed my toilet started leaking. Quickly discovered that his inspection had failed to detect a break in my sewer line and I had no recourse.

That's great to hear and read. They're coming out to our house tomorrow afternoon.

admittedly it's dirty from them being all over your house and the holes they cut and then the patching/taping/floating...we helped ourselves by terminating some outside hose bibs and moving them to spots where drops were already happening for sinks which saved us at least ~15 holes

I'll also add our galvanized was worse than I (and our inspection) thought . Glad we only drank from filtered faucets.

For you guys who used Carlos @ Repipe what was the rough duration from quotation to finished job?

Both from what I recall. The previous owner didn't want us pulling a toilet so they put in a new clean out in the backyard before the hydro. It passed the hydro and he claimed the break was beyond where he could see or something.

Basically I think his paperwork (and likely any other inspector I presume) has super broad language limiting their liability to effectively zero.

So they patched the holes and you'll just need to go back and paint now? We've been putting off paining all of our house from the lovely shade of beige the previous homeowners left the entire house with the exception of the kitchen/ breakfast area that we remodeled.

Great looking house by the way. When did y'all move up there?

~6 weeks, not sure if that is still the going backlog...

They painted too, but we had all the paint from when we remodeled so made it easy.

Thanks, moved up in March of '19. Nice to have the yard space during all this excitement.

Ours was done back in early March, before all the covid shutdowns. I think they started the work maybe 2 weeks after we got the quote. Could have been sooner.

They completed the job in less than two days. Day 1 ran all the new pex connections (4 bed, 2.5 bath, wet bar, 4 outside hose bibs). Day 2 drywall crew patched all the holes. Great job matching texture.

Now, our house was vacant when the work was done so there was nothing in their way, nothing in the attic.

Also, we've called a couple times for follow up warranty questions (nothing they've done wrong) and they've been very quick to respond and send someone out.

Thanks. My house is currently sitting vacant and I am looking to do this re-pipe before we move in later this year. Only issue is I am currently overseas in SE Asia which complicates things slightly!

For you guys who have done this - what options (if any) are you presented with at the quotation stage? I am trying to see if this is something I can manage remotely with oversight from some family in Houston.

Repipe came yesterday and gave me a quote. We're having them hook up new toilets (which was an add on) and we're replacing our master shower fixture (he does one fixture replacement for free). We looked at the water heater, but he's just gonna flush it. He asked if we wanted to relo any of our hose bibs but they're all in good locations.

We talked about replacing the line in from the meter but decided against it.

Repipe is starting today. If everything goes to plan should be wrapped up by Friday.

I had mine done last wed-Saturday. Wednesday they cut all the holes and dropped all the new pex. Thursday they connected the whole new system up in the attic and installed the new toilets. Friday the water was off all day while they switched everything over and installed my new faucet and valve. Saturday the Sheetrock/painters showed up before 7am and got to work.

I was very very happy with their work. The Sheetrock guys are damn magicians. Of the 30 or so holes they cut throughout the house, there's literally one corner of one of the holes that I can tell that they patched it due to a slight change in the texture. And only because it's at eye level as you come up the stairs and I know where to look. Very happy with the project.

I wish I had the same experience as most of yall with The Repipe Company. We had them come do work on Friday and they were scheduled to sheetrock on Saturday. They told us mid day Saturday that the sheetrock crew cant come until the inspection so our house was tore up for a few days. Nobody mentioned an inspection to us at all but maybe I should have known anyway.

After they left Friday evening my wife did a some laundry and then we went up to put our toddler to sleep. When I came downstairs our first floor was covered with an inch of water. The crew forgot to put the drain hose from the washer machine back in the down the drain. I vacuumed up gallons of water at 10pm for an hour and had to put several fans out overnight.

Then on Monday the Inspector shows up and immediately fails the repipe and hot water heater installation. He found several other things they had to be redone. The sheetrock crew came on Tuesday and patched up most holes but left a few because they have to send the technician out to fix the mistakes. The technician didn't show up until 830pm last night and worked until past 930pm last night. He still has to come back to fix other things before the inspector can approve the job.

The sheetrock crew put the dishwasher back in incorrectly and it wouldn't open but only 3 inches. I had to pull it out and redo it. We called the guy and he said he opened it before he left but that was obviously a lie.

The person in charge of communicating with us and who booked our appt was fired a few weeks back a woman told us. So we have no real communication with the company and they aren't communicating with each other about our job.

The entire reason we wanted to repipe is because our downstairs shower hot water doesn't work. They said the repipe would fix it and it didn't. The technician said its definitely the cartridge on the faucet so I bought that part and replaced it and it still doesn't work. Now he thinks its a valve they didn't replace. I made it clear to them that we wanted to fix the shower no matter what needed to be done early on before work was even started.

The whole process has been a mess. I probably should have gone with another company.

sorry to hear, admittedly they were not good at any work past the initial repipe but I'm sure they are slammed now and lost a lot of crew to competing business which doesnt help.

on your shower, pull the cartridge and check that the holes are clear of debris, especially if you had old galvanized. our master shower had the exact problem, we changed the cartridge and still no resolution. pulled the cartridge again and the hot water pipe hole into the valve was clogged with a bunch of old calcium, metal etc. so little water could even make it though. cleared that out and has worked as it should since then.

Yikes. I just recommended them to a friend who was quoted $12k for a 1 story 2 bedroom house by Abacus. Hope this was an isolated issue with that crew.

Are any of you guys' homes old enough to have used the copper or galv pipes for your outlet grounds? Do the repipe companies do anything to keep those intact?

Does not include any buildback of drywall.

Sewer repipes are usually done with some tunnels and reroutes and based on footage.

We can provide free cameras and assessments.

I think I've learned more about these repipe outfits. We had a whole house repipe and I feel like we got the C crew. Be prepared for your house to look like Pearl Harbor, and ours came with 2 people falling through our ceiling.

These front companies will sell you on their product, then outsource it to a crew that does it their way. The crew doesn't work for the front company, so who knows who is really doing your repipe.

Would I do a repipe again? Yes. However, I would ask a ton more questions about who is doing the work - that's who I want to talk to. I don't want to talk to some salesman or desk jockey, I want the foreman that will lead the project. Also, be prepared to stay in a hotel one night.

Do you partner with someone on the drywall, texture, and paint? It obviously has to be done and I'm not doing it myself.

We have a 5/3.5 with a wet bar and three external hoses bibs. Two story. Not located in City of Houston.

We have several excellent drywall guys that will do the patches and paint.

50 per hole and usually two holes per drop. This is for a typical texture finish.

Since youre tearing your house apart, go ahead and punch more holes and run all the speakers wire and CAT6 cable you want at this point.

Or bring in more power from your panel, this will be the cheapest point to ever do it with all the other work.
