How long do you want to ignore this user?
Side question...those are abandoned buildings functioning as bulkhead, Venice-style?
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

I love that stretch, should be an after-hours nightclub down on the water.

The building on the far side of that bridge houses county offices and prisoners being processed (I think?). You can see a walkway spanning the bayou for people to walk back/forth to the law enforcement & jail facilities on the north side of the bayou.

The building on this side of the bridge - used to have a bail bond company and Quiznos sub in it on street level. I think Harvey shut all that down and it sits empty now (but not positive on this). I don't think the water's edge level has had any businesses for years.

CT scan showed nothing wrong with my girlfriend. We are pretty battered but okay. We were at the ER until almost midnight and we still had some wounds to clean up when we got home. I just woke up.

Thank you all for offering to help. I might take y'all up on those offers. I'm going to look this afternoon to see if my boat is still there and I can proceed from there.

I've pretty much written the boat off as a loss. The motor might be worth saving. The hull I think is toast, but it might be worth getting out just as the responsible thing to do. It only weighs approximately 200lbs dry but last I saw it was 1/2 full of water.

I feel like I would need a portable winch or something to pull it out and let it drain. IF I were to get it out. The engine can be carried easily with 3-4 dudes

So sorry man. I've seen that pontoon boat and other small craft often on the bayou. Glad y'all are OK.

I am having my friends check in a few hours to see if it is still there. If it is there I will probably arrange for any volunteers there might be to come help with it in the evening sometime later this week.
. I am currently having a hard time walking, but hopefully I'll be more mobile by the time it comes to salvaging the boat.

I heard rain is coming this week. We'd better get to it quickly if you're worried about it washing down the bayou.

Here are the pictures. My buddies found it and pulled it up on the bank. Let me check the weather. I have responsibly at work until 6 tomorrow but I can get there earlier on Thursday.

I'm going to try to extract the boat tonight. I can remove the motor so it can be carried separately. It is probably ~300 yards back to the parking lot including a small tributary and some steep muddy banks. You will probably get very muddy and wet but I'll be forever grateful and be glad to return a favor. I'll bring some beer too.

I'm trying to get some people to come at 6 to help. I wanted to wait until tomorrow but it looks like it is going to rain badly.

Here is where the trailer is parked: Dropped pin

Wondering if Buffalo bayou partnership would help? You could load the motor on one of their boats and take it to Allen's Landing then dolly to truck.

Got it out. I am very thankful for my friends and brother who helped me get it out. We ended up carrying the boat and motor separately across the bayou to a spot below a parking lot and yanking it up with 300 feet of rope I had (which was just long enough).

I know it's a crappy picture but it's all I got for now. I may be able to upload some videos later.

Ps: WTB 1436 jon boat. Hull only

I typed out a long post but lost it so here's the short version:

Things went about as badly as possible. We made it about 1/4 mile down the bayou before I hit something going about 15 mph. My girlfriend and I were thrown violently into the front seats of the boat. She hit her neck badly and we are in the E.R. waiting on her to get a cat scan. She seems okay other than the wound looks bad. I am Hopeful that she is okay.

I had to abandon my boat on the bank. I had hit a piece of concrete with about a 2 inch Thick piece of rebar sticking out. It cut through the bottom of my boat for about a foot and stopped the boat when it hit the rib.

We put our life jackets on and I pulled the boat over to shore. It filled up about halfway in 10 seconds but I was able to get it on shore where I imagine it is still sitting. I called the police and said that I can't really do anything unless at the scene of the accident. Obviously I feel like an absolute idiot and am deeply regretting my choices .

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do with the boat or who I need to call?
Time to make another run at it.

The sunken Nissan Altima you hit going 15mph is your white wale.

Man against nature. Can't let the bayou beat you on this.

Great stuff-

However, you are too far upstream. It gets much wider and deeper beyond downtown. I imagine you could put in behind McIntyre's downtown at Allen's Landing. You might have other options at Tony Marron Park or Hidalgo Park, further downstream. I would not go further downstream beyond Hidalgo Park because giant ships are not far from there as the bayou really opens up.

I've done the Buffalo Bayou regata several times and there are people associated with the regatta out there on jon boats, and I've never seen any obstacles that you would encounter.

Nothing to add but my Dad who was an HPD cop and coast guard reservist told me they used to patrol on drill weekends coming up from the ship channel back in the early 90s. Not sure how far north they would come or what kind of boat they'd use.

Never could figure out why the city never took advantage of this water way but then I remember how poorly the city is run.

For you who are interested in Buffalo Bayou and traveling it, you must get the book "Buffalo Bayou" by Louis Aulbach. Lou and I were classmates at St.Thomas. He became a canoeist and wrote several books about the various rivers be had traveled. Everything is available on Amazon.

The book on Buffalo Bayou is amazing. He starts at its source which is in some pasture in Katy. As he travels down he gives you the history of the property and the property owners on each side of the Bayou. Hands down it is the best history of Houston I have ever read. I am a native but Lou taught me a lot.

Lou passed away a couple of years ago. He had written several books. He has one on the Camp Logan Riots which, of course, deal with the camp in Memorial Park. I think you will be surprised. He was a great guy. Look up his obituary. Never knew he did so much.

Couple notes

Confederacy kept Union prisoners where UH Downtown is located, where white Oak Bayou joins Buffalo Bayou

Just downstream from there is the Joe Campos Torres Memorial. HPD beat the tar out of him and threw his body in the River. They fished his dead body out 3 days later. The cops were found guilty and fined $1.00.

Plans are to build another pedestrian bridge over the bayou near Japhet Creek, a bit further east of downtown.

Further downstream is Turkey Bend. On the Navigation Boulevard side they are refurbishing a big building to be used for events like weddings and parties. It's actually pretty cool.
