I think it's some tv show that I'll probably watch in about 5 years when it's over and on Netflix.

Nope. No clue what that is. I Googled it and it appeared to be an HBO show I haven't seen. I don't have HBO. I wish I did because the Cherbobyl series was on there and I never got to finish it when my plane landed. But I did read the book.

Court voted behind closed doors to approve a 38% raise for the HCTRA Director who is now the highest paid employee in the county making a cool $485k.

While more jailers and deputies are leaving Harris County because of lack of pay. Good job Harris County.

A couple months ago judge Dora and the rest of the clowns ran advertisements touting they were lowering the tolls for us right? Now they are giving a pay raise to the director....so a little "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours."

Havent been following them closely the last year. But was told to tune in yesterday and I caught some of the proceedings.

First, they waste an enormous amount of time on resolutions. They start at 10am and didn't beging to discuss county business until 3pm.

First take away is they have massive budget issues. But not clear on how this suddenly became an issue.

Second, the county engineer is on the hot seat over Drainage programs. Inflation really brought in cost overruns and they didn't adjust. Commissioners were visibly unhappy. Plus I hear that department is a wreck.

And thats sort of the last I saw. Will have to watch the recording because I beleieve they're going to try to sue the fed over grants but if federal funds are drying up they're going to have issues. In addition, all the COVID cash is ending and they now have to decide what to do with all these new departments and staff. Ideally they should just end with RIFS but who knows.

This will be hugely important when it comes time to set the tax rate as the emergency tax should end and anything over a 3.5% increase incurs a rollback election. Let's see if they demand tax payers vote a larger increase on themselves.

No just a casualty that last year's posts were almost exactly a year ago. And I forgot what year it was.

Rewatching. Around 3:20 theyre ripping open the county engineer because they've totally screwed up the Harvey Flood Bond, and now Hildago is saying they need another flood bond.

Re: regarding the Subdivision Drainage Program

All the commissioners are pointing the finger at ENG, FC, County Administrator.

Too bad she spent her first term trying to run off any and every competent and experienced employee who might have known what to do with it.

*I just remembered this ReduceFlooding blogpost from a couple years about about the "brain drain" in Harris County gov't. It's from 2022, so there's been even more turnover since he wrote this, all pushed by Lina and the Dem commissioners. And this article mostly focuses on department heads, so it's scratching the surface on the engineers, budget people, project managers etc who either got forced out or decided it was a good time to leave.

Not according to his LInkedIn.
