If you had three top spots to grab a great burger, what would they be?
Pappas BBQ
Tookie's

Third is kind of hard to nail down honestly, also depends on how far you are willing to travel.

Magic Burger off of College in South Houston is solid AF; Killen's in Pearland is a damn good burger (I know it's the tine board thing to hate on Killens, but he makes good stuff); will never go wrong with Beck's even though it's a chain. Not often mentioned is Tornado burger off of Murphy Road in Stafford. Stomp's Burger Joint on 146 is wirth going to as well, but with the construction on 146 it would suuuuuuuuuuuuccccckkkkkkk trying to get there right now. Hope they survive. Pete's Fine Meats off of Post Oak makes a damn good one as wel and is kind of low key, plus you can get some exotic meat burgers there as well on occasion.

Search for the tine burger thread - it's about 15 pages of burger discussion. One that i want to try is at Gringo's (pretty sure that's the Mexican restauraunt mentioned in that thread) - they use ground fahita for the patty and it got damn good reviews.

Seemed like it was an older Vietnamese couple that owned it and they might have retired.

This. I still find myself thinking "damn, that was pretty expensive for what you get" after I pay for just about anything though.

you're not wrong. granted we are a family of 4 now. but, damn everything has gotten crazy. its different when things increase incrementally. but, this leap the country has made is tough to swallow.

yesterday morning i went the chickfila downtown. 4 minis. nothing else was over 5 bucks after tax. that just isn't worth it.

at least the food at Cantina Barba was damned tasty.

Every now and then I drive past the old Totem location and it brings back the memories of a simpler time. Then I'll drive past one of the new Tailgate locations on highway 6 and just shake my head in disgust.

I have tried it at the rodeo. We had the vegan burgers because it was during Lent. They were surprisingly good.

Would never drive across town to wait for a burger though. At the end of the day, its just a burger.

Cedar Creek burger for lunch. bread was about 3x as big as the meat patty. a bit over on the outside while simultaneously being under in the middle. been a few years since i've had Cedar Creek. hope this was a one off and not indicative of their current level.

Serious question for the board. Totem was the bomb, but when we lived in the heights I thoroughly enjoyed the White Oak location and didn't notice much drop off, although that was around 2011-2013.

Are these burgers still damn good? Or has there been a huge drop off?

Honestly, I think I mainly just liked the location and casual nature of the original. It was a great place to meet people for lunch without making plans. burgers and onion rings were good, but I haven't gone around to the licensed locations chasing the food. Probably eaten once in the courthouse location.

Totems is a good burger.

Hubcap is a good burger.

Lankfords is a good burger.

As I recall BB's is a good burger.

and the Press Box in Galveston is a good burger.

Tookies squealer is an all time great burger.

If you go into a random taqueria in houston that has burgers on the menu then chances are that burger is good.

You didn't mention La Palapa! (which I haven't had in over a decade).

Anyone been to Dona Leti's, in the old Christian's Totem building? Looks like they got a burger, though pictures suggest they may have cleaned up the place a bit much for my taste.

Totem's was the og and the midtown location did ok carrying the torch for a while after Totem closed. Then they started playing with the menu and it lost its luster. The midtown location had a rib eye steak sandwich that was the *****

Yeah that place on Morgan's point had a good burger.

I remember that now. And I also remember another thing.

There was a concrete boat ramp near the parking lot which was essentially a turnaround for trucks and people that got lost. The parking lot was dirt and gravel. So people would come along and launch boats there from time to time. The road dead ends at the beer joint. And people sit there all day watching tankers and barges go up the ship channel. Mostly plant workers on nights and other people that had reason to be in the vicinity. The place had real character to it.

There was an off-grid guy that lived out on Atkinson island which is across and down from to morgan's point. This guy had himself an aluminum canoe and would go back and forth between this uninhabited spoil bank island and on Morgan's point. The guy had himself a little camp out there. And you'd see his canoe tied up there near the boat ramp. Occasionally you'd see the guy in a canoe making a run across the ship channel.

I guess he had a choice between being homeless or living on an uninhabited spoil bank with a bunch of rattlesnakes. But sometimes thats the choices you have to make in life.

So godspeed to that guy where ever he is.

Has anybody heard that story i'm talking about or seen the guy i'm talking about? Somebody on here will know the full story of this.
