Son and I coming down from DFW for the game. I have never stayed the evening in Houston. Where is the safest place for us to get a hotel at for after the game. Where should we avoid? We would be driving back to the metroplex the next morning?

Budget?

I'd recommend somewhere downtown (though you'll have to pay extra for parking). You can take the metro rail to the game and there is a lot more stuff to do.

Also depends on your son's age. If he's 21 or over, I'd say the JW on Main or Icon.

If he's younger, the Marriott Marquis. Next to discovery green and convention center (where I assume they will have some events going on) and it has the Texas flag pool.

For more of a budget, there's a Courtyard downtown.

If you're just coming into town, going to game, crashing, and driving back, anything that's a brand you know that gets decent reviews will suffice. That said, the area immediately surrounding reliant park is rough around the edges. Not Fair Park in Dallas hood, just sketchy.

Budget is not an issue. He is 15 years old. We are looking at driving down day of the game, crashing after the game, then drive back around lunchtime the next day.

Just stay at Holiday Inn just north of NRG. You can walk out the back of hotel and you'll be on NRG parking lot. No more than a half mile walk

If budget isn't an issue than **** it, fly the helicopter onto the helipad at the Post Oak Hotel and stay there. Arrange one of their Bentley, RollsRoyce or Bugatti's for transportation to the game.

After the Kobe accident, helicopter transportation does not exist in my household.

Did it exist prior to the Kobe accident?

Negative. Always wanted to do the Grand Canyon helicopter tour, but not anymore!

I recommend Sunnyside, Telephone Rd or Greenpoint. for our visiting OSU friends. Perhaps the Galleria as well

Yeah, if you're just crashing for the night and driving right back, stay close to NRG in any of the chains.

If you were more budget conscious, or coming from Dallas, I always like to recommend this quaint boutique lodging on Scott Street, just a couple miles from NRG:

Marriott Marquis is the answer in my opinion. You could ride the rail to NRG for the game from downtown.

Are you really driving down just to watch the toilet bowl? Is there some special connection to this game with OSU, or any particular reason? Only way I would go is if I got free tickets. Not nose bleeds either. Talking about a suite of low bowl Aggie side seats. I have a lunch bet with an osu coworker, otherwise I would have zero interest in this game. This team has been two terrible disappointments in a row. But, hope yall have a good time.

The disappointment for me is that between the transfer portal, players sitting and staff leaving, it's not even the same two teams that played this year. But you can't put a price on quality father/son time.

Free tickets is the correct answer.

Another vote for the Marriott Marquis downtown. The park between it and the Hilton (also a good option) will probably have something going on, you can eat at Biggio's, Irma's or Pappadeaux/Pappasitos within an easy walking distance if needed and the rail should be busy around the game with Aggies of the Texan and Okie variety to crowd out most of the homeless that hang around it during business hours.

The Hyatt, Whitehall and old Doubletree (J. Baldwin, maybe?) will probably be cheaper, but more isolated from other stuff going on. JW Marriott, Icon, Magnolia, and others are closer to the bars and Main street, but I'd pick one of the others if I were bringing my 15 year old.

We always stay at the Holiday Inn north of NRG for the rodeo and various games -used to be the Holiday Inn Astrodome. It s been renovated and has a nice bar with a hot bartender chick with big hooters.

Just be aware that if the rate seems really low, you have to multiply by 24.

Seriously, if you want to spurge, the Post Oak is one of the nicest hotels in town. The Houstonian is also nice.

I didn't feel like making a new thread.

I have a bunch of friends coming in to town for the Buffalo Bills game and Christians tailgate us throwing a big block party, so they want to stay near midtown. what hotel would you recommend to them?

my instinct is whitehall

Stay at the hotel on Fannin across the street from Methodist Hospital.

Light rail into midtown.

Light rail to NRG.

Have them watch the 80's move The Warriors to see how they survived riding the trains back to their hood. They can pick up tips on how to deal with some of the light rail clientele.

it actually took longer for you to think about this in your head, search texags and then pose the question than starting a new thread. Facts are facts.

Whitehall is nice, but I'd prefer to be closer to the rail and just uber to christians. We like Club Quarters for the low price amd being right by both rail systems.
