Prison lobbyists must not be paying as well as the anarchy lobby.
Bond companies are a huge lobby for Harris County judicial races. The bond companies are not being required to pay the county when somebody skips their bond or commits more crimes while out on bond, so they are making money hand over fist with all these repeat offenders needing to pay more bonds. I would love to see the legislature pass a new statute setting higher minimum bonds for repeat offenders and to force the bond companies to pay the full value of the bond into a victim's assistance fund any time somebody commits a new crime while out on bond. If the bonding companies stand to lose money if somebody re-offends while out on one of their bonds, you will see them start to get much more selective about who they are willing to offer a bond to and how much they will charge for that bond.

David Harris was my orthodontist and she was my dentist. I was in boarding school and I'd come in town on weekends and have work done. They typically didn't see patients on the weekends. He was one of the nicest people you could meet.
