Were we waiting in the 2 for 1 discount on the TJ?

Feel like we've done incredibly well with replacement pitchers in season and between seasons the last 5+ years. That luck/bench/farm system brilliance can't keep producing new arms at that level indefinitely...can it?

At seems like my Twitter feed lately is;

-Today's lineups!
-Altuve gets the scoring started
-Breggy gives us the lead!
-Yordan does something amazing at the plate!
-Diaz RBI
-Pena gets the lead back!
-Other team more runs, Astros less Final. See you tomorrow.

Anyone been to a game recently? I heard some grumbling about the air conditioning not getting it done. Is that true? Last season it was brutal, but it was an awful summer. Considering going Sunday, but don't want to sweat my ass off on Father's Day.

It is just a brutal humid summer. It is the same as always.

I went on 6/4 which the heat wasn't bad that day. According to weather underground it was a high of 91, 86 during the game.

We were in the 300s and I noticed it was warm. I would say 78-82 in our seats. Cooler in the lower sections. I just figured heat rises and they didn't have the ability to cool the stadium uniformly.

I foolishly grabbed some cheap(er) uppers on the 3rd base side for some last minute game decision last summer, and it definitely gets oven-y up there. Also got yelled at by the fat chola behind me who spilled her drink on me.

Last game we went to definitely seemed hotter than normal. Not like sweat your ass off in your seat hot, but not cool. We actually hung out for awhile at guest services after dropping off the stroller and signing up to get our daughter's first game voucher because a vent was there and it was noticeably cooler than the rest of the stadium.

Blummer actually made a comment about it during a game, I guess people have been complaining. The roof is open all day for the grass to grow then they close it before the game, takes time to cool it down. But I thought that's been the procedure forever, so not sure why it seems hotter this year.

Facility is coming up on 25 years old. Chilling plant getting some age on it.

Million square feet by 100' tall facility is a lot of volume to cool.

Which costs more, grow lights during the 81 days, or trying to cool off that big ass building 81 days from opening the roof?

Age of the chilling plant shouldn't be an issue as long as it was built to handle the capacity required and is properly maintained.

Guarantee that most the the medical center and downtown buildings all have chillers that are older (although TECO behind the Mays Clinic at M.D. Anderson did get an upgrade several years back)

That said, you can get a fix on the average service life of those individual components.
Based on our experience and research, they are:

  • Commercial HVAC Compressor: 8-10 years or more, with declining efficiency after year five
  • Chiller: 20-30 years for a water-cooled chiller; 15-20 years for an air-cooled chiller
  • Condenser: 20 years
  • Thermostat: 5-10 years; smart thermostats need sensor replacements in 2-3 years
  • Heat Exchangers: 15-25 years made with modern materials; 30+ with cast iron
  • Commercial air handler: 15-20 years

you're comparing a hospital to a baseball stadium?

TECO doesn't just serve "a hospital".

Not only that, but the thermal properties of the roof coatings and west facing window film are probably starting to decline at this point. All of that stuff has finite operational ages and I'm betting they are getting to the point that upgrades/replacements are probably due.

Beyond that, it got hot quick this summer and the humidity has been a cast iron B due to the rains that come every other day. It's harder to cool the air in high humidity. Science and all that jazz.
