How long do you want to ignore this user?
Have a friend having to relocate temporarily to MD Anderson area while her son is treated.

I know nothing about the area. Anyone have any insights on where she should look to stay or areas to avoid?

Any insight would be appreciated. She is coming from Pittsburg.

Thank you all

We lived in the apartments at 8181 Fanin for a bit when my wife worked at MD. There were quite a few families staying there short term that were getting treatment at MD. That was almost 15 years ago so can't speak to the facilities but the location is convenient as the rail has a stop tight outside the front gate.

Tell her to talk to the social work department. They can give her a list of places, and can probably recommend certain ones over others. That's a big part of what they do.

Best wishes to your friend and her son.

This.

Also, garage apartments are sometimes for rent in the area around Rice University and West University.

It was taken over by an awful management company right before covid, stay away.

MD Anderson should be able to give advice and there are several apartments that give sort term rents.

Hyatt House is a new long term hotel option at the corner of Fannin & OST.

A relative stayed in the Rotary House. It's a hotel connected to and run by MD Anderson. I'm not sure about the cost but it was extremely convenient for appointments.

A friend that did a bone marrow transplant stayed at Rotary House. It was convenient, but also required by the care team to be very close to the hospital in the event that an emergency occurs.

It's great if you can get in, but they do try to keep the more high-risk patients there from what I understand. They want them close by.

West University Baptist has locations close to the TMC.

RMD Holcomb House is there, Rotory House too. We just stayed in a corporate apartment at Main and Greenbriar for our two month stay at Memorial Hermann. It worked out nicely. Two months was ~$7k though through AirBnB so I recommend finding an actual short term lease rather than doing it the way we did it.

To stay at RMHC Greater Houston, the MDA social worker/charge nurse will need to refer them. It's pretty easy to get done, they offer shuttles from the House to the hospitals (MDA,TCH,CMHH). They'll probably need accommodations for the first couple of nights until they can get in. Families at RMHC stay anywhere from a couple of weeks to years. Hot meals are provided, along with craft activities etc. At NO cost to the family. there's actually a 2 bedroom RMHC as a part of MDA but Holcombe House has 70beds.
