Seems like an accident waiting to happen
If drivers understand how to go through them (unlikely to ever be the case in the Houston area), it can allow more cars to make it through the same intersection faster than using stop signs or traffic lights.lancevance said:

But people don't know how to use them because this isn't England. This. If people know how to use them theyre also safer than intersections. Fewer accidents and those that happen aren't high speed t-bones.

Or 4 way stops...BBRex said:Based on the number of red lights run and intersection accidents I see on my commute, they ain't very good with stoplights, either.Martin Q. isn't this just a roundabout way to say that they're safer?Caliber said:
Roundabout do cause more accidents, but on average they are minor fender bender types.
Stop signs and stop lights have less total accidents but then tend to be more severe with someone running the light and t-boning people at full speed.
I see what you did there...Diggity said:isn't this just a roundabout way to say that they're safer?Caliber said:

It's repeated at Perthshire too. I have no specific knowledge, but it seems like a way to discourage heavy trucks from cutting down Benignus between I-10 and Memorial. That, or they started with roundabouts and it didn't work so they added the four way stop without taking them out.

They were trying to prevent kids from racing down Benignus when Gessner was a 2 lane road. There was an old guy that would put cones out in the street when he was in his driveway and caused issues because they were stopping traffic. Eventually the small group of complainers won out and installed road humps and round about.
2 each direction. Before there were 4 lanes from 1-10 to Mall. It has been 30+ years since they were installed and it gets fuzzy going back that far.WestHoustonAg79 said:Bondag said:FarmerJohn said:

Wow. Can't even imagine gessner being 2 lanes. Assuming this was back in the day when Westchester HS and Spring Branch HS we're open and you could duck hunt right past the reservoirs/Hwy 6!
Very interesting. Always love Houston development history etc. thanks for posting.
We have one or two in Timbergrove and I'm pretty sure that's the purpose as trucks would cut through to get from 18th to the warehouse off of 12th.texagpilot said:

That's a round-about way of saying it. Lots of circular logic and spin being applied. We should probably circle back to the original topic.Booma94 said:

I got used to roundabouts in North Carolina
I notice a ton in the new development in Fulshear south of I-10
As long as you aren't an idiot, the roundabouts are great
