I just saw this on the news. The plan is ****ing dumb as hell. Could only be dreamed up by a bunch of grifters.
I am surprised that the grifters have not joined forces and proposed the Dome be the southern terminus of the Texas Central Railway.

Only if you could sell all of it to a foreign company

I wonder if Billings still takes his family to the dome and bores them with stories while they stand outside in the heat.

Astroworld land sold for $77 million.

HLSR bought 'the Astroworld lot' for $42 million.

They didn't even pave over Astroworld and put up a parking lot. It was a dirt lot for a long time. Might still be.
It's still dirt.

Wild because when they shut down Astroworld the reasoning was that 'its prime land and it's just too valuable.'

FF 20-years and it's still dirt.

What happens if we tell them to pound sand? Are they going to leave Houston?

Should absolutely tell them to pound sand. You either get the Astrodome, or your rent is going up on NRG to pay for the **** smell you leave behind. You make the call.

Dome of desire? I'd go.
I see you're not a fan of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. It's been proposed already:

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round …
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

And revisited somewhat by Rush in their song about Xanadu.

Guessing Rush and Coleridge had something in common when they did their writing.

I think Peart just read a lot of the classics.

But yeah. Probably.

Ten figures? Does that include the numbers after the decimal point?

It's dirt that make $30 for each car that parks there.

I know those guys didn't win that battle and ultimately lost the war as parking only ever goes up, but they were heroes none the less.

They at least tried to do something about the ever escalating pay to park costs.

I loved the Astrodome and I have great memories there, but it is beyond time to tear that mother****er down. It is an eye sore and just takes up space.

IF you wanted to do "something" with it, and I'm not even sure its possible to do so, I wonder if there would be a way to essentially tear out the guts of it and leave the room to where it could be like a big canopy? It could provide shade for events at NRG. Something like this theoretically....

I'm guessing the strong winds that come with big storms would make that a no-go.

The problem with this mixed use, retail and hotel plan is nobody is going to pay $30-$40 to park to go shopping or dining at a spot that is going to already be charging a premium. Perhaps they will do some kind of validation or drop the rates for non game days, but I just don't see it working. Blow it up and auction off the opportunity to push the detonate button.

Dome 2.0 needs a modular nuclear reactor in the basement, and the roof covered with solar panels.

If green building technology is viable; then prove it.

Also bring back heavy syrup Coke and Hot & Smokeys.

Ain't just your opinion, amigo.

Why does it need solar panels if it has a nuclear reactor?

So the county can give out an $8-million a year contract to clean the solar panels on the roof of the Astrodome.

https://abc13.com/post/harris-county-sports-convention-corporation-approves-another-astrodome-study-week-after-1-billion-plan-released/15575107/

That's right, we need ANOTHER study to see what to do about a derelict craphole that only serves to enrich county officials and administrators. GMAFB.

How did this sleazebag pastor get put in charge of the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation? I guess he kicked enough money up to Rodney, or helped him bury the dead hookers, to get in on the lucrative county kickbacks train.

Anyway, how much does the next study about the Astrodome cost?

Quote:

Dixon said the study will cost at most $350,000.

More on this Dixon con artist. He's a wife beater and has trouble paying his taxes for his church sham. As usual with these types, he is another grifting "pastor" using his church and power to sexually take advantage of women.

In summary, a known woman beater and alleged sexual predator is getting the county to fund a "study" to the tune of $350K to propose what other money making-scheme can be enacted to make money for county officials.

Are there any Democrat politicians in Houston that aren't grifters? Maybe the mayor?
