Craziest thing happened at IAH on Monday around 1:30- Terminal C. Middle eastern or South American looking guy attempted to breach security. The first two attempts, the TSA agents pulled him back and tried talking to him. On the third attempt, he busted through the TSA agents and was trying to go under the luggage conveyer to the gates when he was tased by an airport police officer. It took a number of tases to get him to stop- if he hadn't, they had him lasered in and were going to shoot him. Trying to find something online and haven't seen anything. The TSA's failure to control the guy after the first two attempts (and instead trying to talk to him) put everyone around in danger. I would really like to know what happened. Seemed like a dry run test TSA's protocol. I was watching it unfold in what seemed like slow motion- you could tell from the start the dude was up to no good.

I was once waiting for my next flight in Frankfurt, back to the US, when someone managed to slip by security in a similar move. They forced all terminals to completely empty...you can guess how long that took to get back to normal. It was a ****ty day for sure.

We spoke to one of the TSA folks afterwards, and he said they really screwed up, and the event would undoubtedly trigger re-training and/or a protocol update. The guy could have blown himself (and the rest of us) up or opened fire in the time that TSA was in discussion mode. I've tried to justify the motivation, but I can't believe someone would be dump enough to think they could bust through security. Even if there was a language barrier, it was clear what he was trying to do was not permitted. I also can't imagine a drug smuggler would come up with such a bold approach- seems like you would want to not bring notice to yourself.
I went through Monday around 1245 and it was a breeze. Must have gotten backed up super quick.
I've found at most airports, when the lines get too backed up they turn down the random selection and speed up the x-ray.
Then when lines are small, they turn up the "random" so they they hit the quotation for randoms.

They stopped my son in his wheelchair in Phoenix for 20 minutes 2 weekends ago. Swabbed down everything he owned and emptied his luggage. We were headed home from a wheelchair basketball tournament, and they detected explosive residue on his hands. The only thing he had been launching was bricks, but had pushed himself all over for 2 days.

The guy in front of me got "dinged" for a random.
