I once thought about this too. And after watching my generation pour themselves online for anything and everything, I believe the old timers were every bit as ego driven as they claim us to be. They simply relied on print, television, job titles, and politics as their vehicles. Getting your name in the paper was a big deal back in the day.

Turner did a good job during Hurricane Harvey...and the summer of Floyd riots

but the corruption uncovered in his administration in his final years...plus what Whitmire has uncovered since taking over...is/was really, really bad. Almost every department was scandalous
