If you drive by the building now (it's right off i-10 and parallel to it on the north side) it will say DB Schenker on the front door, which is the primary freight company that Tesla uses. When I drove in the parking lot last week, there were only maybe 15 cars and 3 semi trucks at the countless number of docks.. I peaked into the window just to see what was inside and looked like a very minimally used massive warehouse from what I could telll.

Will be interesting how quickly they follow through with this plant. I know their Lathrop,CA Megapack plant is at about max capacity (I've been there about 8 times in the last year). Excited to see this new plant.

Yikes what is happening to the west side suburbs? Starting to look like Pasadena out there. Why not put these industrial parks on the east side of Houston? Avoid Waller county if you're looking for a home I guess.

Just google all the past mayors caught up on some scandal

What'll happen is the new money will force a new Royal isd complex to cater to their needs - just like magnolia isd, Tomball isd and waller isd - all got or will get second high schools not to mix with the locals - but in Katy the new high schools on the north side resemble brookshire demographics

General rule of Katy is to not go to school above I-10 unless you just really really like being a backup football player. Paetow has Elyson but you're on an island. Yeesh.

Paetow already lost Elysion due to them getting their own school (Freeman HS)

Well all the Katy'ish folks who are worried are gonna have to move to Columbus or something because the development is already there and more is coming. Gonna have to deal with the LOLpoorz who can only afford a $450K starter home.

This is another big deal for us

Another major technology giant is looking to Houston for manufacturing.
California-based Nvidia Corp. (Nasdaq: NVDA) said it will begin manufacturing supercomputer parts in Houston, with production expected to ramp up in about 12-15 months. Nvidia confirmed in its April 14 announcement that it is partnering with Foxconn, which has a significant presence in northwest Houston, for the manufacturing plant.

The computing giant said in its announcement that it is also investing in artificial intelligence chip production in Phoenix and another supercomputer manufacturing plant in Dallas. Together, Nvidia's real estate investments come to about 1 million square feet of U.S.-based production capacity.

Quote:

In late 2024, Foxconn's Taiwanese parent company, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., said it acquired land and a facility to grow AI server production in the Houston area.
That development came to new light in February, when Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) included a Houston facility in its own $500 billion domestic announcement. Apple plans to open the 250,000-square-foot building, where it expects to manufacture AI servers and create "thousands of jobs," in 2026.
Local institutions are already courting the presence of new technology giants in an area that was a hotspot for computer component manufacturing. Besides Foxconn, the area was once home to Compaq prior to its acquisition by Hewlett-Packard Co.

In early March, Andrew Johnson III, dean of computer engineering and technology at Lone Star College-University Park, said local community colleges' growing enrollment numbers are attracting companies looking for a skilled manufacturing workforce.

Really surprised there hasn't been a major cargo airport development out west. Seems logical to move away from Bush for a lot of the cargo.

Supposedly the Katy Executive airport was supposed to be a cargo hub but politics killed it and it went private. It has the runway capacity for larger planes. That's what they told us when the military was using it after Harvey. We were taking coolers full of bbq, food, and drinks for them to distribute where needed.

A lot of cargo is being moved by trains, that is one of the reasons I-10w and 290 have blown up in manufacturing recently.

I wouldn't be surprised if it still happened if you could get the companies around there to kick in for development. The likes of Amazon, Fed Ex, and etc. It would be a win/win for them.

Selfishly, I wish they would put a small United terminal out there. If I gotta listen to jet wash over my house, might as well get some convenience out of it.

But the planes can bring in cargo from other countries and then the cargo can get loaded onto the trains!

Houston Airport Authority (or whatever they call it) still owns a good bit of land to the N/NW of that executive airport but based on my conversations with their asset manager a while ago they have no plans to expand that airport and actually are going to sell the land they own there at some point in the future. Of course, being COH that could take another 20-30 years.
