I really don't like the way things are setting up. Seems like the really awful summers get started in May and hold on all the way thru. Things are certainly starting that way. Can any of the weather nerds talk me off the ledge here? Are we going to be praying for a tropical storm to break the heat dome and drought again?

I remember last year we had a really hot start to May (at the time I told my wife we were in for it if the temps were already in the mid to upper 90's in May) but ended the month on the milder side (mid to upper 80's for highs). I even think we had an early stretch of June where it was pretty mild for Houston standards. Now on the backend, I think we had a more prolonged summer since I was sweating my azz off taking the kids trick or treating in October lol. Just my two cents…..

No truer words have ever been spoken

I can remember my HS summer days working in the cotton/corn/milo fields of central Tx during late 70's early 80's. There was something in the neighborhood of 45+ consecutive days of 105+ degrees. Those days were brutal. The positive was it made 2 a days seem like a vacation. The farm boys v the grocery checkers were quickly identified.

it's been two weeks into May. Calm the F down. It starts getting hot around this time every year. Last weekend we had low's in the 50's. You will be okay

I think people follow the weather so closely now that they are naturally more dramatic about it.

I'm seeing lots of talk about how it's going to be sooo hot today. Well duh, it's mid-May in Houston, this is when it starts to heat up.

It's the high pressure to our west that gives me pause. That is the start of the heat dome and there is no relief in sight on the 10 day. Yeah, it starts getting hot this time of year, but there are usually waves that come through. This is setting up for a prolonged high. Damn, I hope I am not right.

Climatologist told a group of us last month that May , early June was going to be hot. But July and August would be cooler than average. But dry.

Bro, do you even know about this??? It's called the Farmer's Almanac and it accurately predicts the weather 365 days out.

Hot with a high pressure dome is better than a hurricane or tropical storm

Guess what?

May-Sept in Houston is hot and humid AF.

Shocker I know but it's been this way for years.

It was 57 degrees the other night. We had to cancel Mother's Day plans for the pool because it would have been unbearable. Every pool we have been to is almost uncofmortably chilly unless the sun is out the whole time. The weekend before my cousin's pool was chilly and the women wouldn't get in because it was in the low to mid 60's all night before. Kids were shivering and lips were turning blue.

I was thinking it has been pretty cool for May? Last weekend it was very pleasant doing outdoor chores. Has this been hot for you guys? I wish every May was like this, aside from water being unpleasant and chilly.

Yesterday, today and tomorrow are going to set record high temps for these days in May... so last week's nice temps aren't really what he's talking about.

Yes it gets hot in May in Houston, but it is somewhat noteworthy how hot it is specifically this week not just here, but across the state.

Make your prediction of the number of 100 degree days this year (at IAH, the station of record for Houston).

The record is 2023 with 39.

The last year with none was surprisingly 2021.

My guess is 31.

The hottest day in May for Austin is currently tied between May 24, 1925, and May 13, 2025, both with highs of 104F.
WTF were we doing back in 1925 to cause that hot day?

Also, did it really get to 104 in Autin yesterday? I saw 101, but could be wrong.

Lastly, peep what people and animal farts were doing to Florida over the past 120k years.

I care less about 100+ degree days than I do about it not dropping below 75 degrees for 6 months at a time.
