My oldest son a rising senior at the University of Georgia has a summer internship that runs all June & July in the I-10/Gessner area. He's having a hard time finding reasonably-priced housing. He's a good kid and was raised loving A&M (and he still does).

Anyone here with leads or suggestions? Or anyone with a garage apartment (preferably furnished) you're looking to rent out for the summer?

Expensive part of town. Go farther west down I10 if you can't find anything.

This. That's a pretty ritzy part of town, especially south of I10. Even the dirty branch probably isn't reasonable for a college kid. He needs to look farther away or maybe check out some extended stay hotels since he isn't going to be here long

I work in that area but live inner loop. Traffic in the morning is counter flow for the most part so I'd suggest looking east.

Live closer into town. Outside the Beltway is no place for a guy in his early 20's.

What is his reasonably priced budget?

I believe he has a sign-on bonus of $5k that he's planning to use toward housing. It will be the entirety of June and July. So I think he was hoping $2000-$2500/month.

Thank you for the advice otherwise, we'll extend his search.

I would look further in town like the Heights and see if he can't find a garage apartment.

Much better lace for a 20 year old, he'll be commuting against traffic, and lot more housing options.

Here's a furnished townhouse in an area I've been watching. I'd contact the realtor and see if they'd be willing to do something short-term.

I have this same commute. It's really pretty **** both directions every morning at this point.

It's a summer internship. Don't waste time looking for a place in the heights.

Call some apartments in city centre to see if they'll do summer internships and call it a day. City centre is on I-10 and the beltway so it's close by.

Air mattress + lawn chairs plastic cutlery and plates.

He thinks he found something on the north side of downtown, right on Buffalo Bayou. It's just south of I-10, essentially at I-69 and Runnels.

Is that an ok area safety-wise?

The place is called The Standard on the River.

They are doing construction on I-10 west of downtown so that commute will be pretty horrible. My wife works downtown and has to take Allen Parkway to 610 then to I-10 to get home.

The McAdams apartments there by Memorial City Mall has a 1 bed 1 bath for $1744/month. That is right where he wants to be.

The area itself is okay enough but he wants no part of that based on where he's working.

As referenced, I-10 just west of Downtown is under construction.

His daily commute will be miserable.

Based on what he's willing to pay, he should be able to find something in the original area.

He does not want to come too far inside of 610. Traffic on 10 inside of 610 gets pretty bad in the afternoon. Not as bad as the Galleria but it does back up quite a bit just inside 610 and then again right before Downtown.

Two moves in two months, both in the dead of summer. No thanks. Put him in an extended stay hotel for 2 months.

I'm sorry you live in East Downtown. Things will improve if you work hard.

He can find a one bedroom or efficiency inside loop 6-10 (where he wants to be if he has any interest in a social life) for that.

This is the one that I know alot of people have lived in for those summer internships.

Says 1 year or longer lease but might be open to a short 2 month. Worth a call based on price and location
