She looks like a trans version of Bill Clinton in recent photos. Probably acts like one too.

To be fair, a stray cat would be better than Dora.

Terrible Mayor that just wasn't as grifty as Turner.
I didn't live in Houston or the metro for any of her tenure, as I recall, but her priority was being gay.

Honestly, I dont hate the idea. Maybe the bar is so low with Dora, that anyone that can half function seems amazing.

And the Harris County GOP still won't do **** to try to win the race, regardless of who the Ds put up.
Username checks out.

Ah, the internet. I am an outsider who did not feel the positive/negative impacts of the subject being discussed, but here's my opinion anyways!

She was an imperfect mayor but I would take her 10/10 times over Hidalgo if those are the only options we're faced with.

She is a 1000x better option than Lina. Has her faults but at least she's an adult.

Parker will more than likely win the primary. Aliza Dutt would actually make it a race against Lina though. I think Parker beats her handedly.

Might be worthwhile to try to vote in the democrat primary to keep Lina on the ticket and then vote Liza in the general.

Just know that the other primary will have the Paxton vs Cornyn race so you'll have to choose which one matters to you more.

Not for me. I'm registered in a different county. I just live in Houston.

Also, Cornyn was down 20pts on the last poll of likely GOP primary voters.

I think Paxton will be just fine if some Harris Co. Republicans try to fix the county race in their favor.

Isn't she the reason we have an expensive ass recycling contract with a supplier who doesn't have the equipment to actually stick with the schedule? Or did I make that up?

Either way, better than Dora.

This. She's pretty well respected and is a smart/mature person.

You know he lives in Houston now, correct? And would be impacted the same as anybody else by whomever gets elected (chosen by Rodney Ellis) to be the Harris County Judge.

I suppose since you don't live in LA you should never say anything one way or another about the current riots there, since you aren't impacted.

Parker certainly had a pro-LGBTQ agenda but I don't recall there ever being any reports of corruption/scandals during her tenure, certainly nothing compared to what Hildalgo has been accused of so far over her two terms.

Yes she did. And I distinctly remember her saying she wouldn't in her campaign for mayor.

I wonder if there's anything at all to the rumor/theory that Ellis and the D's on commissioners court will find another job for Lina so she can resign or pull out, then support Sheriff Gonzalez for County Judge to block out the Parker effort.

How sad that Dora has set the bar so low that I will be praying for her to succumb to Anus.

exactly. she's a competent administrator albeit not one that i agree with on a ton of things. Lina is not competent in any way.

Aside from the basic premise of your comment being a blatantly false mischaracterization of the issue, you're thinking of (now Sheriff) Ed Gonzalez. He pushed through an ill-advised amendment to the equal rights ordinance that specifically called out restroom use. The original version Parker introduced was silent on restrooms and had widespread support, including some Republican Council members.

Announcing while Lina is in France is just mean. That's going to totally ruin her taxpayer-funded vacation. She probably already had to go have a mental health break when she was told Anus was coming for her.

10 years later, and you are still trying to mislead people on HERO law.

The word "bathroom" was not specifically included because it did not need to be. It was included within public accommodations, and this law pushed by Parker made it illegal for a business to discriminate on the basis of "gender identity". Parker made a point to say that the transgender community was being taken care of.

Remember when she subpoenaed churches for their sermons? Let me guess, a misunderstanding?

Even if a couple of fake Republicans on city council supported it, a strong majority of Houstonians did not. It was soundly beaten, when put on the ballot

Just because like Hidalgo Parker can string together a sentence without sounding like a complete idiot doesn't make her any less horrible a candidate. She's a huge liberal.
Ryan the Temp

I will certainly grant you that Parker handled the whole thing very poorly, but you know as well as I that "men in womens bathrooms" is a BS lie designed to scare people. But hey, at least it worked for you, right?

And Parker being a big liberal is news to absolutely no one. That being said, I have no intention of ever voting for her unless there is no other remotely acceptable candidate.
BMX Bandit

It's not a lie. You continue to be one trying to deceive people.

Under the ordinance, it was discrimination for a business to not allow a person to use the bathroom of the gender they identified with.

Speaking of scare tactics, remember when you were telling people that Houston was going to lose the Super Bowl if Houston voters were against this ordinance?

Must have been another temp. Let me guess, you were just passing along info, not trying to scare anyone.

Quote:

The business community, on the other hand, is already freaking out about this because of the risk of damage to Houston's reputation is very high as it becomes ground zero for the first major LGBT-inclusive ballot issue since SCOTUS ruled on SSM.

****

I was standing in the room when a reporter had a conversation with an elected official about what was being said by major prominent representatives of the Houston business community. Other reporters mentioned to me the concerns they were hearing from major business leaders. The general consensus from them, and some additional polling on the issue by prominent local academics is that the public fight alone will be bad news for Houston's reputation. Business leaders are already concerned that Houston will lose the Super Bowl and other major events over this. They see it as a local version of what happened with Arizona and Indiana.
