I personally don't care about this issue, but calling people bigot because they don't want a road crossing painted in the LGBTQ flag colors seems a little over the top.

If Greg Abbot doesn't want to be called a bigot, he should stop being a bigot.

Where are the crosswalks that celebrate straight people

When is Straight Pride Month?

It doesn't really work to say "we just want to be treated the same as everybody else and be given the same opportunities" while also taking every available chance to say "LOOK AT ME! NOTICE ME! I AM SPECIAL AND DIFFERENT!!!"

When were people beaten or prevented from having a romantic partner publicly because they were straight?

Well inter-racial couples. Different economic status. Yet somehow those people dont need a crosswalk colored so they know it is safe for them. Amazing stuff.

You must treat the lbgtq community like they have accomplished something. Congratulations, you're gay!! Here is your participation trophy in the form of a rainbow crosswalk.

This is a classic 'who gives a fack' issue. On one side, why do the gheys need an intersection of roads to be multicolored? And equally stupid on the other side, why do you care so much about what color an intersection of roads is?

They are a needless safety hazard and a distraction to drivers. There are plenty of other places to make political statements. Abbott is right to put a stop to it.

LOL, safety hazard. if you can't drive with some paint on a crosswalk you shouldn't be driving. good lord, the histrionics by some

Because they continually insist on running one of the worst sexual preference PR campaigns of all time.

To me the bigger issue is you have a city government using their funds to paint a city maintained road being told they can't do what they want with their money because the governor will withhold state funds unless they follow HIS wishes. So much for the party of small government.

If there's statistically zero accidents at the intersection since the crosswalk painting… and a press release is issued ordering the REPAINTING of the crosswalk that seems to be doing its job just fine… feels like maybe some bigotry is going on here.

At least order no new ones are painted from here forward if you want to pass the red face test about them being a dangerous distraction and waste of taxpayers money.

Well, technically cities are subdivisions of the state, so the city doesn't just get to do whatever they want as long as they're using "their" money.

2nd, from the roadway standpoint, there is a set of standards and guidelines that apply across the entire state as well as the country. It's why you can go drive in a new state for the first time and still know that a stop sign will be a red octagon with white lettering. But you know that I'm sure. There is nothing in those manuals that allows for entities to just do whatever they want, whether it's a rainbow, MAGA, or something else. Guidelines exist for a reason, and ignoring them because it's inconvenient or you want to make a political statement is wrong, regardless of who's doing it. And just because it was wrong for 8 years doesn't somehow exempt it from being called wrong eventually.

Then why do we have city and county governments at all if the state can step in and say "even though you didnt break a state/federal law, you can't do that because we don't like it and we'll force your hand by withholding funds for other things."

I wonder how much money the City inflated the cost of removing the paint by.

probably cost 200,000 dollars.

Well. Go on then. Post the standard and explain the violation from a roadway standpoint for crosswalks.

If you can point to what exact State or Federal standard the crosswalk ran afoul of… I'll eat my crow. I think you'll have trouble doing that though because when I Google creative city crosswalks in America… it seems like a lot fall out of 'standard'.

Statistics say otherwise. There have been zero reported crashes of any type at this intersection since the crosswalk was installed 8 years ago.

https://cris.dot.state.tx.us/public/Query/app/query-builder
https://www.arcgis.com/apps/dashboards/1fa762632db9400d8dce1c9cc8c2e76a

But we all know this isn't about safety and never was.

I do believe it could be a distraction, especially for people passing through that don't normally drive in that area, and it is completely unnecessary.

By your stance, I'm sure you wouldn't mind if there was a big red MAGA crosswalk across Montrose either.

Based on the statistics, it would probably also result in a reduction in the number of crashes.

What a non-answer answer.

This is honestly why people increasingly can't stand the LGBTQ community. That and your weird undying partnership with the trans crazies and everything that comes with that (wanting biological males in my daughters sports/locker rooms/showers etc). Just far too sensitive and self absorbed.

"We demand that you paint roadways rainbow colored to celebrate our alternative sexual fetishes and desires and if anyone ever screeches their tires on them it should be a hate crime and their lives should be ruined."

Yall went too far...just a heads up that you might want to just go back to being more normal...because Gen Z males ARE NOT having it.

Ah ok, by that logic, we should have "white pride" crosswalks since many whites have been beaten and killed for being white...far more than gays being killed for being gay. Blacks are 12x more likely to kill whites than whites are to kill blacks. White pride crosswalks and murals...we all on board? Plz don't be a bigot.

Paul Broussard '87 was murdered in a gay bashing just 5 blocks from this intersection.

Can you imagine how wacky this city would look if we have displays everywhere that anyone had ever been murdered for an unfair reason?

No, he just does that to insanely violent places where innocent people are living in terror thanks largely to criminal friendly democrat legislators and judges. HTH. Trump actually likes gays, always has. Has always worked with them and elevated them to positions of authority. Don Lemon just doesn't tell you this, so you wouldn't know.

You'd actually be shocked by how many of the locals support the presence in their neighborhoods...that is, if you actually followed things and didn't get your political takes from Rachel Maddow and Whoopi Goldberg. Very noticeable drops in violent crime.

We have codes and manuals for roadways, and following them is an easy way to avoid a lot of unnecessary nonsense from people seeking to politicize every aspect of life.
