They came out to my house yesterday to trim some trees I have close to some lines. They absolutely butchered the trees and now the trees are going to start leaning heavy towards my house.

Has anyone had this issue and/or had any luck getting them to come back out to fix the problem? Or get some money from them to have the issue fixed?

Doesn't really sound like there is a problem. You have trees that grew in to their "property"

You could fix the "problem" and take care of the trees.

I've had a similar experience. Their tree trimming contractor did a hack job- went way outside of the aerial easement and made the large oak lopsided. It then fell in the direction of the weight during last summer's hurricane. You could make a claim against the contractor's insurance. Good luck.

The best tree trimming is in my backyard

easy... hang some weights on the trimmed part of the tree as a counterbalance.

Only way to fix that is to prevent it by keeping them trimmed away from the lines yourself.

I'm in a similar boat as you. It sucks because the power line placement in my yard really limits where I can have trees, but you can't ***** about power outages, and then complain about the tree trimming. It's one or the other.

I had my trees trimmed the week before and made sure they got cut back enough from the power lines.

The next week there is an outage and some branches from a house down the line for me were the problem. Contractor came and said they needed to check the trees and maybe cut.

They cut the ever living **** out of my trees, broke a little 10ft tree I had and dropped stuff on the kids playground.

Took me 4hr to haul it all to the street and $300 to get it hauled off. Best you can do is call and ***** to vent your frustration.

Was close to happening to me post the derecho. They absolutely butchered some really nice, large trees in a few of same-side-of-the street neighbors. I have a few large trees that pretty much block out any view of the neighbors house behind me that had the line running right through it that you couldn't even see. I stayed out there and tried to bribe the guy with $500 cash to leave it alone but he said others would just come after him to check the work and demand more was cut. When they cut they actually made a really great effort to not just hack stuff off and it came out unnoticeable. My sole positive Centerpoint experience.

Well they run their lines directly on top of the back fence line between homes. I didn't plant any of the trees on my yard but I do have them regularly inspected by an arborist and trimmed to make sure they are clear of the lines and have any dead limbs removed.

That doesn't stop them from cutting outside their easement

Their aerial easement is wider than the surface easement. Aerial is typically 30' on a 14' surface

5'X20' fairly standard in Houston area

CP actually has a new policy saying no more poles in backyard easements. They've been having access issues with the new push to upgrade/remedy their issues.

New rule says paved ROW access to any overhead lines, the developers I work with are not happy about that.

You clearly dont understand how utility easements work and that's your issue. Not theirs.

They absolutely have the right to come in and clear their aerial easements to avoid some idiot homeowners teee from falling into a line and cutting lower to everyone else. Your negligence shouldn't be the cause of power loss to others.

Im all for hacking and felling any tree that poses a threat to powerlines.

I called them and reported I had a bark beetle killed tree and they came out and took it down and were great. I had to pay to haul it off but they worked with me and was a positive experience. We're also experiencing a lot less power service issues since they became more aggressive. Amen.

My tree was 20' from the easement but the height threatened their line. 50+ yr old pine. Was sad to see it killed.

I understand easments just fine. I just think it is bull**** they have no common courtesy to property owners that work to maintain their land.

You had a good experience with them, cool, here is a cookie. You are by far in the minority when it comes to this. People hate centerpoint in general, and pulling **** like this doesn't help. They could work with the homeowners, but instead they send someone else to do their dirty work and deny any wrong doing.

Stable power > your feelings.

They have to move fairly fast and building a custom maintenence plan for each homeowner isnt feasible.

Im generally not a big fan of them but watching the frequency of power interruptions decrease has me happy.

Hell, earlier this week they replaced the pole going into my neighborhood and had several power interruptions midday. Sucks, but they have work to do.

I have to say, since they did all the trimming in my neighborhood, no real power outages have occurred through any of the storms the past several months. And we are a very tall tree neighborhood

CNP wants to put their lines in the ROW, but they aren't requiring it.

They are even charging them for the difference when developers are requesting things that aren't ideal for CNP

Oh they did terrible hack job job trimming in timbergrove area after derecho and beryl wiped out most of the trees anyways. What the storms didnt take out, centerpoint butchered to death. They had to do a ton of new poles too, but they really made sure the grove wont ever have a power outage again, haha.

CPE says, 'clearance not appearance' when dealing with encroaching trees on their right of way.

And poles right behind your house usually come with a 7-10' building easement and another 7-10' ariel easement that you can't go above 14-20'
Cibalo

Not asking for a custom plan. It would be one thing if everytime there is a power outage in my neighborhood it was becasue of a tree. However 90% of the time it is equipment failure and not vegetation.

There has been no decrease in outages since they butched all the trees around here.
