Willowbrook Mall won't allow unsupervised kids

Growing up, the mall was the place to be.

I loved it. Especially at Christmas. The music, decorations, etc. Last time I went to a mall at Christmas, you could barely tell what season it was.

It's really sad to see.. Everyone says online shopping killed malls but I think the underlying disease was demographic change and a lack of perceived (and sometimes real) safety.

I'd love to see Americans take back the malls and stop avoiding them. Have lunch at the food court. Buy some clothes. Spend some money.

Y'all go first. Let me know how it goes.

Went to Willowbrook on a Monday afternoon bc it was near my doctor (had an appt) and I needed to return something. Stopped at the food court while there because I was starving.

Place was pretty deserted. Rather enjoyable experience, honestly.

Only weird part was when the cashier in the food court asked me if I was a cop. Then said he noticed my t shirt and started asking me about growing pot. (My t shirt had a hard hat on it and said "state hat of Oklahoma" from an O&G conference.) He then proceeded to tell me all about his various friends in the pot growing/pot selling business in OKC.

Very odd conversation between a young, heavyset black male and a petite, middle age white lady in a mall food court.

You're a middle aged white lady? Haven't seen one of those in Willowbrook Mall in a few decades. Certainly not in Memorial City Mall with my daughter last weekend. One of the richest zip codes in the state, if not the country, and the local mall is third world.
Memorial City being third world and the richest zip codes in in the country certainly are wild takes.

Malls are like trick or treating, when going to either poor people prefer the rich side of town.

It is cute that you think it is "the richest zip code in the country"

Doesn't even crack the top 100.

I have no dog in this fight but 77024 is in the Top 5 (and probably more like Top 3) % wealthiest in the country.

You misquoted or (more likely) sloppily misread what was posted.

I don't think what he said was factually incorrect.

Please provide a link to any place on the internet that backs up your claim. Nowhere in TX is near the top of the wealthy zip codes in the US on any googling I have done.

It's generally a very wealthy zip code - probably top 2-3% in US I'd think. No one's dunking on anyone on this.

Goodness, this place is filled with petulant premenopausal women now. Maybe it's not anymore, but growing up, it was well known that 77024 was definitely one of the very top wealthiest zip codes in the nation...I don't know why that is so hard to believe. It simply does not have any bad areas and there are not very many apartments filled with poor brown people (like we had all over the place as soon as you crossed the tracks and entered the 77043). Many other famously rich areas in the country are in a zip code that captures a little bit of the lower/middle/working class income demographic.

Anybody try out the new sidewalks they just built along 1960 yet?

Maybe someone finally saw that video from 20 years ago with that visitor who tried to walk from the mall to the former Wal-Mart on Cutten.

Seems like most people in general, especially non-Houstonians, tend to be giant poons about this city.

There is probably no better example of a "don't start no ****, won't be no ****" place than Houston especially for its size.

Man, I remember when Willowbrook and the Galleria were really nice.

They are both descending into Greenspoint territory.

I'm not around WB much these days but stopped there recently for some Portillo's. Mall looked pretty bleak from the outside.

I will sh** all over this city to outsiders, but then get defensive if anyone from any other place does the same. Kind of how I am with my Ags.
