I think that's another church bylaws issue. It usually comes up regarding deacon nominations in how the church members interpret the qualifications of a deacon in scripture.

I would imagine the circumstances of the divorce would factor in, as well. See Charles Stanley.

The movement towards lack of oversight at Second seems eerily similar to previous complaints about Ed Young Jr in DFW.

As a preacher's kid, I don't think there's any scenario where a child should succeed their parent in leading a Christian congregation.

I have no doubt what you say is true. But I also have to laugh at this. You can't say you're above the fray when you sought out a 17 year old thread to post the drama.

Good choice. The Fray is Grey's Anatomy garbage.

Well, there's the route of actively fighting the change or the route of letting people know the truth of what happened. I chose the latter. I certainly would not have started a new thread about it. If there hadn't been an existing one, I wouldn't have posted.

I am appreciative of the fact that you provided this update here.

I do like Ed Young's preaching (I know he is no longer engaged from the pulpit). We are between churches and 2nd Westside is an option, but I never really liked their model.

For anyone that has ever been involved in church business, you have to be prepared to endure what members and staff are capable of. It takes discipline to accept that everyone is fallen and try not to let it impact your walk.

Well put.

If you go to the Southern Baptist Convention website and look at member churches in the Houston area, Second Baptist no longer shows up.
Nor should it. If it is no longer led by the congregation, it is no longer SBC. Bye.

Should no longer be an SBC church.

For the record, I am a member of 1st Baptist Kingwood.

I went to second Baptist as a kid. Both the church and school. But moved to Kingwood in elementary school. There was no second Baptist in Kingwood, so we we t to forest cove Baptist.

I enjoyed it well enough until 8th grade and became more aware of how lacking the youth group was.

Switched to Kingwood United Methodist church for the rest of school. Then went to a&m.

I missed all the merger and new construction of forest cove into second north.

When we moved back to the area, we tried a few smaller churches, but they all seemed fake friendly.

We kinda liked the woodlands church satellite in atascocita but just couldn't get into the broadcasted in pastor each week.

About 10-12 year ago now we decided to give second North a try and it was a great fit for us. Pastor Craig Reynolds does a great job and keeps you engaged.

I always liked ed young and how he was not afraid to say controversial but true things. I had several friends leave the church a few years ago when he basically called out the left wing crazies. I loved it because it was true to the Bible. Truth hurts but I'm glad he wasn't afraid to say it, unlike the olsteens of the world.

I have no problem with ed young enjoying his life. He has earned it. Do you expect him to live in 2 bedroom house in a random neighborhood or not vacation in secluded more exclusive areas? Have you seen the crazy people out there that would love to pester him constantly? No matter what side a public figure is on, they are targets to someone. Even the former youth pastor at second north was harassed at gas station for just buying some beer once. The horror! It's on YouTube somewhere, but he didn't deserve that and that's just a nobody youth pastor.

My kids attend all the retreats we can afford. Yes they aren't always cheap, but how much would you pay for a week at a condo on the beach in Florida with food, games, transportation, and events? They love it and we have no regrets. The focus always is on god and Jesus and okay they can have fun doing it with like minded kids too.
You might enjoy my book, as a Kingwood resident.

It's still there. Not sure why it was posted above that it isn't.

Most Southern Baptist churches are pretty autonomous and can do church however they seem fit.

If you donate a portion of funds to the convention, then you are in.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said, "Stop! Don't do it!"

"Why shouldn't I?" he said.

I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!"

He said, "Like what?"

I said, "Well, are you religious or atheist?"

He said, "Religious."

I said, "Me too! Are your Christian or Buddhist?"

He said, "Christian." I said, "Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?"

He said, "Protestant."

I said, "Me too! Are you Methodist or Baptist?"

He said, "Baptist!"

I said, "Wow! Me too! Are your Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?"

He said, "Baptist Church of God!"

I said, "Me too! Are your Original Baptist Church of God or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?"

He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God!"

I said, "Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?"

He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915!"

I said, "Die, heretic scum!" and pushed him off.

Went to KFBC in the 80s as a teenager. Transferred to SBC in the 90s after getting out of A&M.
