And have some for us too, while you're at it. Why they don't have TDS down here on the Gulf Coast is a mystery to me (except that Shipley's pretty much dominates the market here). When we come to up the Panhandle to visit my wife's cousins in the Friona area, we often make a pilgrimage to the the Donut Stop on 23rd St. in Canyon ...

The DS in Canyon just did a major renovation, and they also built a new fancy place at I-40 and Bell in Amarillo.

The I-40 & Bell store:

Krispy Kreme came into Amarillo and closed their doors in just a few months. They could not stand up to the greatness that is "Donut Stop".

Why they don't have it on the Gulf, is because it is only a local franchise: 7 stores in Amarillo, one in Canyon.

I wish they had had the Donut Stop in Canyon when I lived there in the 60s and 70s (I don't think they had any donut place in town back then, except for the Spudnuts shop on 4th Avenue, next door to the Varsity Theater) ...

As for TDS, I'm not sure, but I think the building where it's located was originally Gene Morrison's Shamrock service station (hard to say, since the buildings on the west side of 23rd Street north of 4th Avenue have changed so much during the past 30 years) ...

I distinctly remember there being one in Lamesa during the late 1980s ...

Could be they used to have a location and abandoned it. Or it could be that they didn't have the name trademarked.

we used to "stick it out for the stop" in high school --- where we would stay up all night just to get to the DS when it opened.

That place must be damn good. They have nice stores in Amarillo, and the one in Canyon is really nice. Ran Krispy Kreme right out of Amarillo. I must try it next time I am there!

And then head over to Doug's BBQ (I recommend the one on Teckla) for a Frito Pie. Try it and you'll eat at least 2 per week. Fritos, BBQ, beans, and cheese. Purchase an extra bag of Fritos with it, so you can distribute that bag as you see fit. Awesome.

The Spudnut Shop is still open at 3rd and McMasters! I sold Spudnuts door-to-door as a kid back in 1948-1953. Made a bit over my expenses of eating the Spudnuts.

On a recent visit to Donut Stop, my wife and I got maple frosted cinnamon rolls. The frosting was so warm, it burned our hands when we picked them up--now that was some good eatin'.

Fox news was supposedly at the Donut Stop at I-40 and Bell this morning, doing man-on-the-street interviews about the election.

They showed some footage last night from their stop at the Big Texan....wall to wall Ron Paul maniacs, with signs.
