Canyon high goes up to 4A in a district with Randall, PD, Caprock, Dumas and Pampa.

Their old district mates in AAA got hosed. Borger, Dalhart and Perryton are now in a district with Lubbock Cooper, Lubbock Estacado, and Levelland.

It's about 270 miles from Perryton to Levelland.

I just posted on the thread in the general board. Hereford and Plainview have to travel to San Angelo and Abilene!

This must be very frustrating for parents, and students. It takes a while to recover from those trips.

Perryton's travel:

Borger = 68 miles
Dalhart = 110 miles
Lubbock Estacado = 238 miles
Lubbock Cooper = 247 miles
Levelland = 265 miles

AVERAGE = >185 miles!!

There are probably others that are worse - but WOW!

Well, that's the price you guys pay for enjoying wide open roads;clear blue skies by day; the star-studded heavens at night; the song of the meadowlark; and never being more than 60 minutes away from the nearest K-Bob's

Perryton used to have a K-Bobs, but it shut down.......

When I was in school at Perryton the furthest we had to go was Childress or maybe Friona. The following were in our district:

Tulia
River Road
Friona
Childress
Dalhart
Fritch Frogs

It sucks that all those small downs died!

Brutal travel schedule indeed in that 3A district. Also, how about San Angelo's road trip to Amarillo and vice versa?

The bus trip from Amarillo to Odessa is grueling. But, the last time I did it, we beat Permian there...

The wife grew up in this part of the state and went to a 1A school. She estimates that she spent half her HS years in a bus (not just FB games). I can't imagine what it's like for kids at the larger schools.

My wife had to get up at 3 am one morning to catch a "UIL" bus as a teacher/sponsor. They had 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders going.

It is a sad tale for what those kids have to endure to compete.

Yes, this is ridongculous. Gonna be real bad for basketball. Gotta make each of those trips once a year, instead of once every other year.

i was on that bus ride. . .okay, maybe not that bus, but i've done that. in elementary school, we always had to go to canadian for contest. that's a long way at a really early hour for 2nd and 3rd graders.

SR year of high school, we played AT spearman on friday night and got on the bus to drive to midland for band contest at 5am the next morning. (graduated from clarendon.)
