What are the prospects of getting wind turbines in Cottle County? I know there are proposed transmission lines running through Cottle County for the CREZ districts, but was wondering about actual turbines and leases for them.

I suspect the electric utilities are going to start objecting at some point about the electric turbines.

The problem is that they have to be able to be ready to generate power when the wind isn't blowing and the electric turbines aren't running. They can handle some amount pretty easily, but not forever.

They are going to want to have their generators running and on-line and able to increase output reasonably quickly. With lots of wind turbines around, this management issues could be pretty tough.

I know that a lot of farmers up here are counting on getting the wind generators on their farms sooner or later. I think that those who can get them there sooner and with solid contracts are going to be in much better shape.

All the wind turbines that are being built right now are being built where transmission lines are already in place (or very close by).

The present round of building is largely based upon tax incentives which may or may not continue in the future. They wouldn't be building the wind projects without them.

My parents grew up in Cottle Cnty and are part owners of land there. They have received contracts to sign saying they are interested and approve of turbines on their land. A lawyer in Sweetwater is handling their end of the contract. Evidently, there is a company that is going to build them but we don't know where yet. Hopefully, they will plop lots down on their property.

What I'd worry about is a company acquiring all the rights it can expecting to do something eventually.

I'd sure want some kind of performance guarantees in the contract.
