Seems like I've heard Cagles.

Don't go to Cagles. I wasn't impressed. I'd go to the Double Nickel. Triple J is also a pretty cool place. Its a brewery near the depot district.

Thanks...current, first-hand info is always a must for restaurant recs...which I don't have.

I still remember the glory days of "Sirloin for Steaks" and the original "50 Yard Line".

My in-laws have mentioned 50 Yard Line. I haven't been there yet.

It's been a few years since I've lived in Lubbock. When I moved there in '98, 50 Yard Line was good. It declined the entire time I lived there. After 2003 or 2004, I refused to eat there.

Double Nickel or Las Brisas

Those two are the top two in town these days by far.

Cagle's end of thread.

The others mentioned above are extremely pricey and not usually worth the extra $$$$.

If you want just a plain old good steak, then I still like Cagles. If you want really nice and don't mind dishing out the cash, Las Brisas is really good and don't forget to order the Bananas Foster for dessert - it is to die for and for those of us that don't eat 5 star everyday it is cool that they fix it right in front of you. I say those two are the best.

The 50 is under new ownership now and is actually quite good.

Cagles has been great every time I've been there. Hard to beat a mesquite-grilled steak in a real (not contrived) western-style setting.

The 50 used to be the best place around back when I was kid, then it went to crap. Glad to hear it's back.

The Las Brisas Filet was most excellent.

I agree that the 50 is good again now. I used to work at Cagle's and I think it is pretty good. The Double Nickel is amazing, but the difference shows up on the bill too. I have not tried Las Brisas, but I have heard it is really good, for less money than Double Nickel.

The atmosphere and service at Cagle's is much better than the food, IMO. Which is not to say the food isn't good, because it's not bad, but it's not great, either.

Yes indeed.

As for Cagle's, the atmosphere is cool. However, I do not see how anybody can say they have good steaks.
