Wife and I are in Amarillo for the week visiting my folks. Its been a while since I've had to plan a date in town, but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of nice restaurants, bars, hangouts worth going to these days. We're not big dancers, but like a nice meal, a few drinks, some music and a decent group of people.

I know its not quite Austin, but I figured we'd better make use of the free babysitting while we're here. Thanks for any recommendations!

There are a couple of nice restraunts downtown. Zens 721 (I think not sure on the number), OHM Cafe, Anapoles (italin i don't know the exact spelling). They are all pretty good. THere are two bars downtown burberrys and bodegas. I have heard they are nice but never personally been to them. I know if you drive out to bishiop hills they have lights you can look at and then the lion's club takes a donation at the end. Its pretty cool but only takes about 15 - 30 minutes. You might also check the civic center's website to see if there are any orchestra events at the Amarillo Globe News Theater. The Little Theater may also be having events. And there is always the Amarillo Gorillas (hockey ). Just a few ideas....

Pack a picnic supper, some warm blankets, and drive out to Palo Duro Canyon to watch the sun set. Chicks dig that kind of stuff.

Even better, see if one of the cabins on the rim is open and spend the night.
