Heading home Friday to bury a very great friend on Saturday. I understand that there is some weather waiting on me when I get there.

I will be leaving Austin area with another friend. We are planning the Abilene-Lubbock route because of the winds/snow. Take that North South route thing to avoid the drifting snow.

And good advice? Except don't risk it. We are coming if we have to put snow shoes on.

Wow, sorry to hear about your friend.

I looked at the weather from Abilene to Snyder and it looks like it is just going to be windy. I think you will run into some rain/snow around Post in the afternoon, so you should be fine up to almost Post. It looks like it is going to be miserable all day in Lubbock though.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Again, I am sorry to hear about your friend.

Can you fly? Bad stuff is going to start tonight, and go all day Friday and into the night, finally clearing Saturday morning. And its going to be windy as hell all the time.

Snow amounts are predicted anywhere from 4 to 20 inches, and with that wind, it means 2-4 foot drifts.

Travel is discouraged all day Friday.

Forgot to add, my reading of the pattern is that the N and NW Panhandle are going to be hit hard, and that's where the big amounts will be.

We're still supposed to get 4-6" in Canyon/Amarillo.

I would highly recommend you NOT try and make it here, if indeed you are travelling to Perryton.

Newest models have us at 20+ inches.... mostly coming in Friday.

If you have time to spare you might shoot for Amarillo and sit, but I can almost guarantee the roads WILL be closed up this way. For Friday at least. Probably Saturday.

Several have already called it an epic storm for this area.... and if you're from here you know what that can mean.

My condolences, but I'd not try and make it here.

ETA: If the services themselves are being held Friday, I promise you they will be rescheduled. It will be a literal blizzard here all day Friday. Most likely this holds for Saturday as well.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Actually I am from Clarendon. But was headed to Amarillo.

When they closed I-27, we turned around.

I have never heard actual fear in the voices of friends from the Panhandle when talking about the weather.

Today, I did.

I hope all of you are ok up there. I miss the snow, but not the type you are getting today. Stay warm.

Glad you're safe in any case. Sorry, I'm the one that got you placed in the wrong hometown. My B-I-L (also Ag '77) teaches high school math in Clarendon, has for about 4 years now.

A good friend of mine from the Perryton area posts here also. You may have seen our names together.

Does he like Clarendon? It can be very cliquish at times and unwelcoming to outsiders. Which is a shame because it is one of the prettier towns in the Panhandle in my opinion. But then, I also grew up in Hart. So Clarendon was paradise in comparison.

Sorry to hear about your friend Killer. Just checked today or would have responded earlier. I would agree with the words on Clarendon. I still run cows there so I get to see it a few times a week. The river was pretty with snow on it last week.

Yeah, he really likes Clarendon, hates the drive over.

Funny you mention Hart, I was just through there. Did you know the Old Ag/antique tractor collector named Paul Armstrong? You might enjoy the thread about it on Automotive:

Also from the Hart/Olton area were the Phillips family; the late Glen '44, brothers Pat and Mike (both BQ '74) and sister Glenda '77.

Paul Armstong was our neighbor and the first Aggie I ever met. EDIT: if you call 4 miles away being a neighbor, he had to turn off the blacktop at our house.

I even set by him at church when I was a kid doing usher duties. He was a very smart introspective person.
