May I brag on my old roommate (and a bit on myself)?

Maybe some technical person will "fix" the link above.

I believe that at the time of the event chronicled, The Lighthouse was on private land, not state park land. If I have been told the right story, it was only annexed within the last two decades.

Use the following format, except use brackets [] instead of parentheses ()

Great story.

Next time I'm there I'll look for your pipe.

That's my understanding as well. When we used to hike out to the Lighthouse back in the 1970s, there was a barbed wire fence (marking the park/private land boundary) that was all but knocked down from all the foot traffic going over it ... I always wondered about that pole ...

Guys-----

I was all over Palo Duro Canyon from 1950 on but I never knew it's official boundaries. I know Lighthouse Rock is in Little Sunday Canyon but I have no idea when it was included in the State Park area. Palo Duro Canyon was just Palo Duro Canyon.

If you guys remember Dan True (mentioned in the article) as being "The True View of the Weather" in Amarillo back in the days, Dan retired as a TV weatherman in Albuquerque and moved to Clovis, NM where he still lives. Dan and I stay "in touch" with each other. You can google him and see the books on eagles and hummingbirds he has published.

I got one of Dan's eagle books as a gift a year or two ago.

I definitely remember Dan True back in the 1960s, deftly wielding a Magic Marker to draw little funnel clouds and tornadoes on a paper map of the Panhandle during weather alerts. (This being in the days before fancy computer graphics and flamboyant weather personalities.) Dan True, with his flat-top haircut, good-natured toothy smile, and endless supply of ski sweaters. An all-around good guy.

KFDA used this dandy piece of music to introduce Dan and the weather segment on its nightly news, back in the 1960s:

(was also used in station promos advertising Dan True and the weather)

When Dan left KFDA, I switched my allegiance to Len Slesick and his Constant Image Radar at KVII ...

I remember Dan True. He would sometimes wear this little umbrella hat when there was rain in the forecast.
