The Lubbock A&M Club will not be hosting the traditional Feed the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band BBQ or selling game tickets for the A&M vs. Texas Tech football game in Lubbock on October 24, 2009. This decision was made after consultations between the Lubbock A&M Club, Lubbock area event officials, and officials with the FTAB. University-wide budget constraints, efforts to reduce costs for FTAB travel and accommodations, as well as reduced BBQ and game attendance, are major reasons for this year's change. Opportunities for the Lubbock area BBQ in support of the FTAB, as well as the sale of game tickets, will certainly be pursued for future football games in Lubbock.

Midnight Yell will still be hosted by the Lubbock A&M Club at the Mackenzie Park Amphitheater the night before the game.

That's right, MT. We are recommending that Aggies buy game tickets through the 12th Man Foundation, 1-888-99AGGIE, or you can order them online at www.12thmanfoundation.com/tickets/F09-RoadGame.asp

Apparently Ags are getting tired of being spat and shat on in that cesspool.

You are welcome Professor.

Yes, Tapeworm, that is one of several reasons that attendance has dropped so dramatically.

I would personally love to see something be done about those fans that are causing these problems. Most Tech grads I know are truly ashamed at what has become of their football games.

Well everyone can come by my house for some BBQ. There would be nothing like having some of my Aggie family enjoying some good food and good times.

That is good to hear. Most that I know (Lubbock is my hometown) either attempt to justify it or act incredulous

I didn't see anything in the OP saying that fan behavior was a reason for lower attendance. I think it is probably more due to the economy, and people in general are traveling less. One poster speculated, in a not so nice manner, and all you others just piled on. Classy. Thanks in advance for not attending.

Nice try, but your fan base's low reputation is well documented in several sources (not just Aggie webboards), and my own anecdotal evidence that includes several Aggies (and many from Lubbock) indicates that many will not attend games based upon past experiences. I was at both goal post debacles and made the decision not to ever attend a game there again. Not because of the economy, and not because of the game's results. After all, we don't have great success in Lincoln, Norman, or Austin, and we still travel well to those games as a group.

If you want to verify opinions and make them quantitative and statistically significant, you would want to collect data. In this case, you would want to view the actual Aggie attendance and determine if it is in fact different than years past. If it is different, you would have to survey those that have gone in the past to find out why they are not going in current times to control for issues that might be significant, such as economy, lifestyle changes, and/or tired of watching the Ags lose.

Count my vote as not wanting to deal with the fanbase.

Exactly. I won't go b/c if I or my family get spat on and cursed at by another stupid tech fan, I will be arrested for aggravated assault, and as a relatively young person in the workforce, I can't afford to have that conviction on my record. There's an anecdote for you.

obejaun and tapeworm, my sentiments exactley. We never missed the Lubbock game, but have not
been back since the last goal post incident. We have been cursed at, our cars keyed and threatened. Never again, we choose to go to Stillwater and Norman. We do not go to Lubbock for any reason, ever!

It's just strange. We love to host visitors at Kyle and have a chance to show off the campus and area - and hubby and I always try to catch a few of the opponent's fans and thank them for coming, wish them a safe trip home. That's regardless of the outcome.

The tards seem to glory in their thuggy reputation and actually hope that opponent's fans won't come. How stupid. Don't they realize that a lack of visiting fans impacts the local economy. Of course, they don't have as many local folks attending, anyway, so maybe that's part of it.

Thus supporting the statement made by Tapeworm about the actions of tceh being one of the reasons for decreasing attendance.

Please return to your etch-a-sketch, and leave actual reading and writing to those capable of doing so.

And this is a prime example of why it does not bother me one bit that more aggies do not attend. No other team comes to town showing more arrogance than those from college station.

And Aggie76 did nothing but add to the speculation. As obejuan pointed out, you would need to do a study to prove this one way or the other. Of course if you are on texags, this does not matter, and you can say whatever you want about Tech, so long as it's negative, and it becomes gospel. Again, thank you in advance for not coming.

I see. Aggies are arrogant, therefore it's ok to shove goalposts into their stands, throw batteries, throw ice, key cars, harass them at yell practice, and curse and spit in their families' faces...even non-ags who aren't in the colors, but are only with Ags.

We could use the same logic in our treatment of the longhorns when they come to College Station you know. We just choose not to. Let the action on the field shut the opposing fans up if your hatred of them is that high. Didn't your mom teach you that two wrongs don't make a right?

Yep. That's exactly what I said, and is the reason why I participate in all those activities. And honestly, I don't have that big of a problem with Raiders showing up to your yell practice, assuming they don't actually pose a threat.

That is a mighty big assumption there.

You tell me which is the moral high ground. A perceived aura of arrogance on the part of one fan-base, or an actual physical reaction based upon said perception by another fan-base.

Now back to your assumption. The last Yell practice I went to I was with my fiancé at the time and another couple we were friends with. Walking back to the car my friend got caught in between four dudes yelling in his face and shoving him, adding plenty of nice superlatives for his girlfriend. The cops’ presence was the only thing that got us out of there without a good fight. Since we were heavily outnumbered, our safety was in fact at stake.

Hell, we were not even safe in the stadium. The bozo security force had us hemmed in at the end of the game (the last goal post fiasco). I am assuming they wanted to let the crowd empty out before letting the Ags out of there. It was amusing to watch them stand there while we got assaulted from the back side. It was also amusing to witness the reporting of the event, in which the reaction seemed to be, "What were the Aggies still doing there in the 1st place? It serves them right!" Nice analysis jackasses, we would have loved to leave if your keystone cops would have let us.

Serious question: you were really outnumbered at a yell practice? I am not trying to fan the flame here, I just had no idea that many Raiders showed up, or that few aggies.

For the record, if you look at any other posts I have on the South Plains board, I always try to be helpful, and never try to start conflict. I try to make recommendations for restaurants, driving directions, apartments, etc. I think this kind of crap belongs on the rivalry board, which I don't post on that much any more because these are ridiculous arguments, and have yet to be productive. I guess it has spread to here too. Oh well.

And yes, Tapeworm's assessment was correct, he must have attended a Lubbock yell practice in the past. It was in fact close to my car, when the Aggies were dispersed. And yes, there are just as many if not more tech kids at yell than Aggies. It is Lubbock after all.

Oh and thanks for being a prime example of what's wrong with Tech fans and why you act the way you do.

Just to add my "anecdotal evidence", I've attended football, basketball, baseball and soccer games on the Tech campus. I've done so since I was 6 or younger, growing up in 30 miles from Lubbock. So I've been there as a kid, as a cadet (BQ specifically) and as a former student.

Obviously from my class year, that's been over a very long span of time, and from several different perspectives. Although I never took my kids there for a football game, I would never risk children in that hellhole.

Tech has always been bad. It has gotten progressively worse. My male Tech alum cousins did not allow my female cousins to attend there.

My opinion is that it used to just be local students who went to Tech. Now Tech is full of Dallas, San Antonio and Houston kids, not all, but many of them were not able to get into their chosen school, and harbor quite a resentment because of that.

I used to never miss an Aggie game in Lubbock. My wife and I not been to one since our kids were born in the 1980s.

There's your anecdote.

I've attended the last 4 games in Lubbock having grown up there. Although older Tech grads usually don't participate in the sh*t talking many I know, like my Dad, still try to defend the school. Personally, when I attended a game at age 13-14 and was cussed out for wearing maroon my mind was made up on how bad the overall atmosphere at Jones is.

But it appears to me that Colorado and K-State will be the only places the band will not go this year.
