Where's the best place to stay in Amarillo?

In your car as you drive through?

Seriously, looking for a motel as you pass through, a B&B, extended stay, what????

As a general rule: Go West, young man. The newest motels are on the west end of town, generally in the Westgate Mall area and west, and most of the chain food places are in the same area.

Homewood Suites at I-40 and Soncy is pretty decent.

I would recommend against the Camelot Inn (or whatever it's called these days) on east I-40, unless you're really dying to stay in a cheap motel that somewhat resembles a faux castle ...

Seriously, I concur with CanyonAg's comments ...

Just there for two nights. Looking for nice place with a restaurant and bar. No B&B's.

I would stay at the Ambassador. It has a TGI Fridays and a decent bar.

Yeah, it seems the Ambassador is generally considered as "the nicest". Though as said before, there are tons of brand new motels surrounded by tons of new restaurants on the west end.

What are you doing in town, if you don't mind telling?

And you don't need to pick a motel based on where your business/conference is. Takes very little time to go anywhere.

I'm not a big fan of the ambassador. The TGIF friday smells like it hasn't been cleaned in 20 years.

I would recommend The Druiry Inn. As canyon said it is on the west end of town. Last time we had some faimly staying there, they got free drink tickets when they checked in. There are also about 5-7 restraunts within walking distance:

Furs, Famous Daves Barbque, Johnny Corinos, Kabuki Steak House, Logans Steak House. You also have the mall right across the interstate.
