Was considering getting tickets to the A&M/Tceh basketball game this weekend, but I've never been to United Spirit Arena. Would we be risking our lives? Will they shove us down the stairs if we show up in our Aggie gear?

Yes, I'm exaggerating, but I'm curious about how they treat visitors at b-ball games...

Any help?

Recently they've been lucky to get any fans to the games, either mens or womens. However, they always pull a crowd (of sorts) for A&M.

There might be some comments, ignore those and you'll be fine. Stay away from student section seating, find the Ags already there and move into that section. (we're in 232)

Come early, stay late, watch a big win for the Ags.

It's never that bad. We go every year and have never had any problems.

I went last year and had no problems whatsoever. It felt like a high school game by the attendance numbers.

It will help being in the afternoon as the students will wait till after to get drunk and hi... (not all of them but it at least curbs some of it).

I've attended several A&M games (FB & BB) without incident. But my wife seems to attract problems while there....once with a college kid yelling indecencies at her the moment she stepped out of the car and twice with middle-aged women in the stands coming to her seat to talk trash. She won't go back.

This year’s FB game was the first I’ve missed in a decade. I guess I shouldn’t go back either.

Thanks for the input, everybody. I just bought our tickets and we ended up being put in Section 232! Wish us luck....eek!

Sometimes I wonder if their most hazardous fans are those who have no connection whatsoever to Texas Tech other than the fact that it is local.

I think it was in 1994 when a Tech fan (not a student or alumni) tried to block the A&M basketball team from leaving the court after A&M made 6 points in the last 3 seconds or so to win the game. After being slugged by one of the players, he filed a lawsuit against A&M and Coach Barone. I think the lawsuit was dismissed after a couple of years or so.

Don't be a pansy!! Get to the game! Actually, the last couple of years the crowd was really small at the game. Lots of Ags there. A few years back, when Tech last had a good team, the fans showed up in force for the Aggies. Still not any big concern. Maybe some occassional trash talking, but pretty harmless overall.

The United Spirit Arena is an outstanding facility. One of the best in the country. I'm sure the tards will have a pretty good crowd now that they have won a few games lately, and the Aggies are in town.

We'll be there! I thought it was funny they charged a $2 "delivery fee" for me to print out the tickets on my own printer at home. Hmmm...are they going to be sending me paper and ink?

It is a death trap. Stay away. And keep all of your post players away too.

I am bringing a bag of batteries to throw and plan to wear my steel toe boots so it doesn't hurt my toes when I kick the old ladies.

Meaty Hands...I guess I will have to bring a helmet.

I will be in Section 102.

Can't wait for Meaty Hands to stop by Section 201 to say hi to me and my good friend Smokin' Joe Wilbert.

I have been to numerous basketball games in Lubbock and with the exception of the game where Joe Wilbert, Barone and the team had to fight their way to the tunnel towards the locker room, there is usually only a little verbal bantering.

Going back to the '94 or '95 game, I would never condone what Joe did, but to this day I do not know if the team would have made it to the locker room if he had not thrown the punch. Once Joe took a swing, it was like the parting of the Red Sea and everyone in maroon scampered up the ramp. Having the visiting team exit through the student section with not a security guard in sight was a formula for disaster. I think this was same game that the Tech coach James Dickey was running up the other ramp yelling and screaming at the officials about the winning A&M basket at the buzzer.

I am actually going with the same Tech friend who was with me that day. We are hoping all the action stays on the court this time.

Yep, we had a great time and the Ags pulled it off! It was a good day all around!

We had a BLAST!

Big props to the techster who stopped by our seats and told us we needed to "calm down" because we were making their team look bad.

I had a great time. Other than the game, I sat next to a couple of Tech alums, and we had a good discussion on basketball. But the quote of the game was from a Tech fan. As we were leaving I game an Aggie a high five and her husband was a Raider, I told the gentleman, "Good game", and he says, "Like I told my wife, it is tough to win a game when it is 5 on 8." I just laughed and responded, "Now I know how texas feels."

It was a good time. I was disappointed that I couldn't even get a free tortilla. That's a shame.

Good time had by my daughter and I. My wife is a raider and she has already brainwashed my oldest daughter. It was nice seeing my her be the only one in tech gear on our row. All the fans around us had a great time and enjoyed the game.

I enjoyed the ride home more since I got a chance to explain to my oldest that we have won in football and swept in mens baskeball. Can not wait for Baseball season to start now.
