I just got word that my nephew in Spearman is one of 15 that have been accepted into the Partnership for Primary Care Program in the Texas A&M Health Science Department. What I understand is, this a 4-year undergrad program that feeds directly into A&M's medical school. It targets those who have a desire to, and will then, serve/practice as primary care physicians in rural areas.
Very PROUD of him.

Congrats to the nephew! And the best part about the PPC program is that if he keeps his grades up and fulfills the requirements, he doesn't have to take the MCAT. And that IS a big deal!

Very nice....and am I correct, if he practices in an under served area for a few years, the Med school debts are repaid?

Congrats to him. Just be sure to tell him he needs to stay motivated to keep his grades up. Just because he's already accepted into a program like that doesn't mean he's in for a free ride in undergrad. He needs to study and work just as hard or when he gets to medical school he going to struggle with the workload. I've seen it happen myself multiple times.
