Wide open spaces and you can see forever.

The houses you see in the foreground are about 4 miles away. The grain elevators on the horizon are approximately 19 miles away.

Neat atmospheric phenomenon such as this "sun dog".

And of course, the amazing sunsets.

If you ever lived in the city, one thing that would pop out at you immediately is the clarity of the stars on a clear night.

You live with a couple of dust storms in the spring and some damn cold winters, but to me it's worth it. I've lived in D/FW, Wichita Falls, Austin and Corpus Christi, and I'll take the wide open spaces of West Texas over anywhere else in the state.

As a retired AF and National Weather Service weather weenie, with two tours of duty at Cannon AFB, NM (Clovis), methinks you are just a tad bit understating the facts.

With all due respect, it's more than a "couple" of dust storms, normally there's at least one or two good blizzards each winter, a couple of crop destroying hailstorms each spring, and even a tornado or two (or three).

But you were close! (Just kidding.)

And as a weather weenie, this is what I miss: in Eastern NM and the panhandle, thunerstorms tend to be isolated and can be seen for very long distances.

So, one can watch a storm cloud grow from just fair weather cumulus to a very tall and mature thunderstorm, anvil and all.

Now THAT'S what I miss!
