Apropos of nothing, I thought I would post a couple pics of our old house on Conner Drive in Canyon that I came across while scanning a bunch of vintage family photos over the Christmas holiday.

Our brand new house in Pioneer Estates, 1964. Notice the barb wire fence and open prairie behind the house. We were literally living on the edge of town. This was the first of 3 houses that my father would have built to his specifications (the others being in Hattiesburg, MS, and San Marcos, TX), and this was always one of my favorites.

Same house, circa 1971. Notice all the trees. Dad loved trees. I don't think he was so wild about paying the water bills for keeping the trees alive. More than once, I heard him say "What was I thinking when I told them to plant all of those trees?" He was from the Midwest. He didn't know any better. I hate to think about how many acre-feet of water was expended to keep those trees going. Probably made a significant dent in the Ogallala Aquifer ...

SE corner of Conner & Thompson. 3300 Conner Drive, to be precise.

We pass by the place every other year or so when we're in Canyon on the way to NM. It's nice to know that the subsequent owners have kept it in pretty good condition.

One of the best things about this house was that it had three (3) bathrooms. (No small issue considering that our previous house in Rossmoor had one bathroom for the 5 of us ... )
