How long do you want to ignore this user?

Google has basically options:

I20 - 349 miles

TX114 - 321 miles

Will I regret taking the 114 route through Seymour, Gutrie, etc because of how much I'll have to slow down in each little town?

Also any good places to eat along the way?

Thanks Ags!

I was going to suggest Southwest Airlines. But the cheapest fares are $89 to $141 each way? Geeeez.

I-20 probably fastest. 114 more interesting. Depends on your time, how easily you're bored with Interstate driving, weather, daytime or dark, etc.

So I-20 in a hurry, 114 to sit back and smell the roses on a nice day

I agree with the others. I-20 is probably slightly faster, but it is close. I take 114 now and then for a more scenic drive.

114 through Seymour (Go Panthers) to Guthrie to Lubbock to see major ranch land burn (most of Moorhouse, Pitchfork, Spike Box and 6666 ranches burned). Come back 84-I20 to see all the electricity generator windmills around Hermileigh-Synder-Roscoe-Abilene.

If you choose I-20, I would recommend the New York Hill restaurant in Thurber. Also Museum of Industrial History of Texas is right next door.

It's just another Corps trip boys, we'll march in behind the band.

Just a little ways past Thurber--Mary's in Strawn.

Mary's in Strawn x2. Their 'small' CFS is more than most folks can eat, and its pan-fried instead of deep fried. Definitely worth the 4 mile drive north of I20.

Harolds BBQ and Sharon Allen's BBQ in Abilene, Skeet's Texas Grill in Merkel and Sweetwater, Big Boys BBQ in Sweetwater, The Shack in Snyder are all good choices too.

The Rock Inn Cafe in Seymour used to be pretty good.

New York Hill is good, but I would also recommend the Smokestack on the other side of the highway. . .that is, if it's still open.

Just noticed that I'm probably way too late with this reply.

I've stopped at New York hill and the Smokestack. Both were good but personally I thought the food was just a little better at New York Hill. If you're making a roundtrip, do both. Going east, eat at the Smokestack, going west New York Hill. (No particular reason for the direction other than they are on opposite sides of the highway and this way you just exit rather than having to make a turn around.)
